YesAsia Editorial Description

Stylish singer-actor Leon Lai has been staging his comeback for two years and now he's returned with a fresh new image for his album, Leon Dawn! In a snazzy, yellow outfit with tanned skin and slick copper hair, Leon offers all-new rhythmically-pleasing tunes and visually-stimulating MVs.

Leon releases his new CD with a bang – with the pulsing-upbeat song, One to One(Track 4). The Leon-style disco-dance tune is highly broadcasted on television as the commercial theme song for a digital electronic product. For those who miss hearing Leon's sweet, mellow voice singing ballads, you won't be disappointed with Not in a Lifetime (Track 2). A collaboration between composer Mark Lui and lyricist Lin Xin (the biggest names in the music industry), the slower melody will make you succumb to the romantic lyrics. Mandarin-versions of these addictive pop songs are also included in the album.

Leon Dawn comes with a bonus DVD that capture The Making of Will Laugh Will Cry (DVD Track 5) and five of his most creative and massive-budgeted MVs. Always giving a new definition to Hong Kong MVs, Leon's colorful new MV includes a surprising special guest appearance of Anthony Wong Chau Sang for his song One to One(DVD Track 1).

Hong Kong music enthusiasts, don't miss out on this CD-DVD treat!

Professional Review of "Leon Dawn"

Leon's Dawn:Dawn ~ Leon Lai

Starring in three blockbusters such as San Geng, Leaving Me Loving You and Infernal Affairs III has fuelled a strong comeback for Leon Lai in the local showbiz. Having claimed The Best Actor Award, he is storming back to the local music industry as he releases a brand new album Dawn which includes 11 Mandarin and Cantonese songs.

Although other producers such as Wu YueCheng and Ce Tian of On Your Mark are parts of the production crew, the chief producer Lei SongDe still leaves a heavy influence in the album's style. The "new" songs are not of much difference from his old ones as most of them are canned love songs and upbeat dance songs. The present reviewer thinks fans would still appreciate of what they have been fond of for years. The only pity is that Leon has not made much progress, except being a bit more expressive and passionate, in his singing.

Songs like Hoity-toity (Track#2), Don't Lick The Wound (Track#3), Minority (Track#6), Do I Still Love You(Track#7) and Will Laugh Will Cry (Track#5) are all ballads which Leon is good at. Each song is special and unique. Hoity-toity is beautiful and touching. Don't Lick The Wound is great in music and lyrics and Leon's amazing performance in Do I Still Love You has perfected the song.

However, other songs such as One To One (Track#4), In Deep Distress (Track#9) and Result Table (Track#10) are not that good. The commercial theme song One To one is with no character at all despite being rhythmic and poppy while the lyrics of In Deep Distress, one of the four Mandarin songs in the album, is old-fashioned. Result Table is not very good either. In Contrast, Slow Motion (Track#11) and the opening track What (Track#1) are much better ones.

Recommendations: Hoity-toity (Track#2), Don't Lick The Wound (Track#3), Do I Still Love You (Track#7) and Slow Motion (Track#11)

Good stuff Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It has been a while since this guy put out some good stuff. I'm not necessarily a fan of mandarin songs, but this is an exception.

Leon's Successful Comeback Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This compilation of various kind of songs prove that Leon still has a lot of creativity for the Hong Kong music industry. We can have the feel of all kind of music he has been trying over the years, and it shows the effort! The cantonese songs are so romantic, and the mandarin songs are so different to what we hear from usual hong kong pop!! The DVD contains excellent MTVs that were directed by Leon himself!! It shows again that Leon's talent is getting better through the years!!!
