 一拳打天下

導演:鄭昌和
Director: Cheng Chang-ho

Months before Bruce Lee burst onto the international scene with Enter the Dragon, this powerful story of tragedy, torture, redemption, and revenge premiered across America under the unforgettable title Five Fingers Of Death. It went on to become the first international martial arts movie hit and made a continent-spanning star of Lo Lieh. Now, finally, after more than thirty years, the original King Boxer takes its rightful place as the film that started it all for the Western world.

A martial arts classic Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
"King Boxer" takes a rather hackneyed plot and turns it into cinematic gold. It's the familiar story of an evil and ruthless martial arts school using nefarious tactics to gain preeminence in the martial arts world and use that power for selfish gain. Only one noble school stands in their path and only one of their fighters has any chance of defeating the evildoers' aims. Yes, it is a story we've seen told countless times, but here the filmmaking is seamless, taut, suspenseful, and a treat to the eyes. Lo Lieh does a magnificent job of playing the hero and is supported by a strong cast. Director Kung Min uses stylish cinematography and the striking use of colored lighting (taking a page from Suzuki Seijun's movies) to keep the viewer hooked. The action is solid and more brutal than your typical Shaw Bros. actioner (clearly seeking to borrow the visceral style of Bruce Lee's films). "King Boxer" belongs in the DVD collection of every martial arts fan.

Not bad but not great Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
This movie is better known as 5 fingers of death in America and it develop a cult classic status. But it did not aged as well as others. It's early 70's and the kung fu genre just began. So experiments were made. It's good to see Lo Leih as the good guy for once. One for the history of the genre but not quite the classic that some clain it is .

King Boxer Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
The commotion caused by this first international martial art hit in the '70s was great. Lo Lieh was then recognized as the kung fu super idol. Now that I watched this movie again, it has a simple script and common martial art stunts. Lo Lieh performance as usual. Nothing so unique about this movie, but ok for sheer relaxation.
