YesAsia Editorial Description
Even though he is facing enormous pressure because of his role in the new Zhang Yi Mou blockbuster Curse of the Golden Flower, co-starring Gong Li and Chow Yun Fat, Jay has not forgotten his music fans. Known for his own unique style that skillfully incorporates R&B and hip-hop as well as other music genres to weave a melodious sound carpet, Jay has always been very fond of experimenting. His latest album titled Still Fantasy is no exception to the rule.
For his new album, Jay has teamed up with veteran Taiwanese singer Fei Yu Ching who is extremely popular not only in Taiwan, but also in Mainland China and overseas. Music fads have come and gone over the years, but Fei has renamed a household name in Taiwan with his melodious ballads. Now the golden voice of nostalgic classics collaborates with pop giant Jay for the first time. To make a good thing even better, Jay's long-time collaborator Fang Wen Shan was there to inject a special flair into the song through his brilliant lyrics. Over 50 channels broadcast the two music wizards' highly anticipated duet Qian Li Zhi Wai ("Faraway") when it was released on August 23. As for the title of Jay's latest CD, Still Fantasy reflects the immense range of Jay's creativity as he introduces new elements while staying true to his trademark sound.

this is my first jay chou album and i have got to say that i was impressed and have become fan at once. production of the tracks are phenomenal with a flavour of r&b and dance, it successfully blends western style with an asian backing. as for the vocals any jay chou fan will be acustomed to chou's monotonous delivery and this took me awhile to fully appreciate but once you do you start to hear some carefully constructed flow of lyrics. unfortunately my mandarin is really poor so i cannot really touch upon the subject matter but what i do know of, is that they are varied sometimes focusing a real life experience and morale messages and others are fictional stories. Jay chou switches between hip-hop tracks to pop tracks but the mojority falls under the latter category. the album opens with an interesting piece, it a fictional story that focuses on the exploits of jay chou as a detective and the unravelling a mystery (the accompanying music video is well directed), as we get further into the album tracks start to mellow out and becomes more ballad focused, some are easy listening material and should appeal to fans. in total there are about 3 tracks out of the 10 that are more unbeat in tempo akin to american produced music but with jay chou signature vocals and a hint of asian instumentals. the problem that i had was that all the best tracks (in my opinion) were featured on the opening of the album where as the rest became familiar and a bit bland. the album comes with a dvd that includes to music videos and a making of (one of the music video) the music videos are extended versions of the tracks on the album but add no new lyrics to the music itself just fleshes out the story. this is worth a watch as it shows what a talented musician jay is. credit needs to be given to Jay chou for composing, producing, writing and directing. |

The Truth About Still Fantasy
|
Like every other of his album, all the songs are composed by taiwanese mega star Jay Chou. Whoever knows Jay most is Taiwan since that is the first place thats heard of him. The album came in second for the highest selling album of the year behind of "Dancing Diva" by Jolin Tsai. Though the album did sell 3 million copies within only 3 month which is extremely alot for China, The album was bad compared to his other albums but better than his previous album "November Chopin" which was his lowest selling album. The album had good songs but theirs nothing different, no improvement. I also can't believe I'm seeing reviews saying their is not a single boring track. Well Majority of his fans find Rosemary a really boring song. The lyrics for the song seriously could've been a club song something really upbeat. He wrote three songs in the album if I'm not mistaken, they are good and they are actually something different but then the rest of the album just lacks in improvement which JAY is really know for, improving. The album is still a great album but then a disappoint to the people have been with him since the very first start. Lots of people just are too obbessed with his looks and they just get like death and say all of his songs are gooood. OPEN YOUR FREAKING EARS! |

Awesome!
|
I have to admit that I was not let down by Jay's latest cd. I think all the songs are really great, my favorite song is "ting mama de hua" because of its fun upbeat tune, but all the songs are great; there isn't even one that I don't like! The dvd is nice...but, I like the making of footage better than the two videos. The poster is also great, super big and nice high quality paper. Overall, this cd is better than I even expected, I think he has definitely improved and is continually setting the bar for his music higher and higher. |

Didn't wow me,but still decent
|
None of the songs on the album especially caught my attention, but that may be because I'm desensitized by his style. I'm still waiting for songs to wow me like from his older albums. Overall, if you're a Jay fan, you'll get what you've been hearing from him, good quality work. |
