PARODIUS Portable (Japan Version) PSP

Parodius Portable brings Konami's classic wacky shooter to the PSP. Famous for poking fun at the popular line of Konami titles, the Parodius games were usually only available in the west as imports - and it's understandable why that is. Full of strange concepts, cute but sometimes off-color graphics, and a sense of humor that's best called bizarre, Parodius is not the standard sci-fi shoot 'em up that one would expect from Konami. Players take control of penguins, octopuses, girls on rockets, the Vic Viper from the Gradius series, the boxing glove-wearing aircraft from Twin Bee and more, and must take on numerous foes, including plenty of penguins, octopuses, Easter Island Moai (which show up regularly in Gradius), and sometimes large, scantily-clad women.

The above doesn't sound like your typical shooter, but Parodius plays just like Gradius, with side-scrolling action, large bosses, and multiple weapons, including a purchase upgrade system and the standard Gradius weapon satellites, called "options". The stages themselves are usually based on other Konami franchises, including Gradius, Castlevania, and even the dating sim Tokimeki Memorial, with music taken directly from those other series, or based on many famous classical pieces. Despite the tongue-in-cheek trappings, Parodius actually features solid gameplay, and provides a more-than-adequate challenge to gamers who enjoy the series' wacky sense of humor. Parodius Portable contains ports of Parodius Da, Gokujou Parodius, Sexy Parodius, and Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius, all reformatted and ready for play on the PSP.
