Spring Waltz (KBS TV Series) (US Version)

YesAsia Editorial Description

The original flagbearer of the Korean Wave, renowned producer Yoon Suk Ho has won over fans all over Asia with his "season" dramas, starting in 2000 with the classic Tale of Autumn (a.k.a. Endless Love) starring Song Seung Heon, Song Hye Kyo, and Won Bin. He followed up in 2002 with the heartwrenching Winter Sonata starring Bae Yong Jun and Choi Ji Woo. These two dramas were phenomenally popular in Korea and throughout Asia, transforming the leads into international stars and even helping to boost Korea's tourism industry. In 2003, Song Seung Heon returned for the third installment, Summer Scent, opposite Son Yae Jin. Three years later, Yoon presented the fourth and final chapter of the seasons quartet, Spring Waltz, a quiet drama about a romance born one spring on a small, isolated island.

Left in a small island town by his gambling father, young Lee Su Ho meets the sickened Suh Eun Young, and they become good friends. Even when Su Ho's unscrupulous father steals Eun Young's family's money, the two remain steadfast in their friendship. A tragic twist of fate, however, forces them to separate, with Su Ho eventually getting adopted by a wealthy couple. Fifteen years later, Su Ho is now Yoon Jae Ha (Seo Do Young), a loner piano prodigy with a loving family and a fiancee (Lee So Yeon), and Eun Young (Han Hyo Ju) has a suitor in the suave Philip (Daniel Henney). Jae Ha and Eun Young's lives seem set in every way until the childhood sweethearts cross paths once more...

Spring Waltz features a refreshing cast of relatively new faces. Leads Seo Do Young (Emperor of the Sea) and Han Hyo Ju (My Boss, My Teacher) make a charmingly photogenic couple, while Lee So Yeon (Super Rookie) displays surprising range. Perhaps shining the most brightly is Korean American heartthrob Daniel Henney (My Lovely Sam-Soon) who shows off both his charisma and his language skills. Beautifully shot and wistfully romantic, Spring Waltz is a fitting finale to the seasonal drama series.

My favorite out of the four season dramas Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It feels almost sacrilegious to say Winter Sonata has been bumped down to #2 but that is quite the case, because Spring Waltz is definitely my favorite right now. Whatever one may say about the amateur acting, I thought there was a lot of heart in their portrayal. Seo Do Young's hesitant line delivery and lisp would've been bad elsewhere, but here they lend to his character's socially withdrawn nature, even if it's intentionally so ^_^ Han Hyo Joo's also her best here as I thought she was still natural despite a lack of technique. Spring Waltz's a melo that depends more on feelings and sentiments rather than actual plot movement. I love being all wrapped up in their relationship because they are incredibly happy with each other and I get incredibly happy watching them.
I haven't noticed the cuts made to the DVDs, but what I do know is that the boxset is very pretty. It's prettier than most of the YA boxsets I've bought before. Textured cardboard box and fold-out cases. Definitelycollector's edition quality.

My favourite now Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
How can I say this, but I've never felt so satisfied, so complete by any drama. So I can say this one is my favourite. It's not the typical romantic comedy like My Girl, but neither is it a complete melodrama like Autumn in my Heart. But the most beautiful series ever made in my opinion.

The story does not start at childhood, but rather we get a glimpse of the main couple now before get go back in time. A lot of people found the childhood scenes long and boring, but I found it so intriguing, cute but soon so heartbreaking.

The series starts out quite cute and happy for the most part, embedded with gorgeous music and the most touching moments. Sure, there's going to be those parts thats going to make you angry and have mixed emotions later on, but then it wouldnt be a drama without those parts. Even though much later there are more and more issues between the main couple, their love remains strong as ever.

I must say I was impressed by the two leads, at first I didn't like Han Hyo Joo at all. I just didnt. But her acting was so incredible, and her expressions were just... innovative and inspiring to see. It's hard to hate her at all for the most part. Her opposing lead, seo do young, captured me in an intense emotional net as he was the most mysterious and passionate character in the whole series. He really enjoyed watching scenes of them together, even if they are fighting, one will always show love to the other.

Daniel Henny and Lee so yeon were quite satisfactory themselves. lee so yeon was able to turn from a controlled and welcoming person into the most jealous and spiteful woman in just mere seconds. Her performance didnt make me hate the character as much as i thought it would, but nonetheless she wasnt bad. daniel however, his acting seems a bit limited, not because of the language barrier, since he spoke more english than korean, but it felt he couldnt FEEL his words as much as he should. Alot of people watched this show for him, I however did not. But he did alright in the series.

The music and scenery was inspiring and beautiful. they both went hand in hand together. absolute genius.

sure, not EVERYONE's going to like this series, since everyone has different tastes, but to me, I dont think ive loved a series more, i remember loving goong and a love to kill alot, but this one overtakes them by a whirlwind.

Havent seen this yet? its not too late!

Beautiful Story Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
What I most liked about this series is that the girl is not the typical stupid girl that's always getting in silly troubles and the caracter played by Seo Do Young is very intense, you can actually feel his pain. The other thing is that he is not the usual men of business, nor rich (at least not by birth). If you buy this series, by the soundtrack, is outstanding!!! you better take the 40% now!!!

In my top ten list of dramas I rate this as #2 (first go My lovely Sam Soon)

Refreshing Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This drama was a little different from most formulaic K-Dramas. There is no 'bad girl' until quite late in the story. There was no 'we can't get married because my family doesn't like you' element. And it was different to see the characters speaking English and German plus the shooting locales in Europe. I felt this story-arc stayed interesting throughout, without losing momentum as happens in other dramas sometimes. Except Daniel Henney, the leads are fresh, new talents, so it wasn't a case of 'Oh, I've seen him in a hundred and one other things.' This one and Summer Scent are my two favorite 'seasons' (sorry, Winter Sonata fanatics...). The flashbacks are beautifully filmed, acted and edited. The story stays in the past for quite some time in the beginning. This gives the viewer a solid background and understanding of why the main characters are where they are presently. Smooth transitions between the present and the past. Many times, in other dramas, this becomes jumpy and confusing but in this it's done very well. Satisfying ending.

Spring Waltz, Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Beautiful movie … rather sad- ish… didn’t end sad though. If you’re a pseudo-piano playing-romantic movie lover like me you’ll love it and hate it at the same time (because whoever played the piano made me look at my piano with something akin to detestation). I felt bad for Philip (almost called him Henry). Took me a while to figure that (Jae Ha and Philip) were speaking German (sounded really well)!
It really is about love that transcends years… no one can beat that! It was oh so sweet (not sugary) but beautiful… I hear there’re 3 more in the set, hope they’re up to par. Do watch.
    CHEERS.
