ヴェルディ以前のロマン派オペラ作家としてはロッシーニ、ベッリーニと並んで重要な存在であるドニゼッティ。代表曲「愛の妙薬」は今日でも重要なオペラのレパートリーとして高い人気を誇っている。本作には、ネッロ・サンティの指揮により2006年にチューリッヒ歌劇場で上演されたドニゼッティの歌劇「ドン・パスクヮーレ」を収録。素晴らしい歌唱で"新世紀三大テノール"の一人とも言われるフアン・ディエゴ・フローレスが若く魅力的なエルネスト役を好演。短気なドン・パスクヮーレ役で光る演技を見せるのはイタリアの名バリトン、ルッジェーロ・ライモンディ。ソプラノのイザベル・レイもノリーナ役で美しい声を聴かせてくれる。演出は伝統的かつ創造的な演出で評価の高いグリシャ・アサガロフが手がけており、愛と笑とユーモアたっぷりの舞台を、存分に味わうことが出来る。
