TVB favorite Bobby Au-Yeung cracks cases and deals justice in the 20-episode costume suspense series A Pillow Case of Mystery. Similar to series like Justice Pao and Bobby Au-Yeung's previous Witness to a Prosecution, A Pillow Case of Mystery revolves around solving mysterious murders and corruption cases through deductive reasoning - and some divine intervention. Bobby Au-Yeung portrays a country magistrate who loses all confidence and motivation after his inaccurate court ruling drives an innocent person to suicide. By chance, he acquires a very special pillow watched over by a Pillow Spirit. In his dreams, the Pillow Spirit provides him hints on how to solve his cases.

Based on a famous Qing Dynasty novel, A Pillow Case of Mystery co-stars top actress Kenix Kwok as Au-Yeung's romantic interest, as well as popular actors Benny Chan Ho Man, Tavia Yeung, and Annie Man. Aired in 2006, A Pillow Case of Mystery was such a big hit with audiences, a sequel was made in 2008.

Sze Sai Lun (Au Yeung Chun Wah, Bobby), the magistrate of Jiangdu County once makes a mistake, making an innocent person taking its own life by hanging. Since then, LUN loses his faith in himself and his will is down. Later by chance, LUN obtains a Dream-pillow. Whenever he comes across any difficult cases, the Pillow-spirit (Lo Hoi Pang) will appear in his dream and present him the puzzle that hold the key to crack the case.

With the help of Pillow-spirit, LUN successfully cracks a case, arrests the real culpuit and save the lovable enemy, MAI HEUNG YUNG (Kwok Ho Ying, Kenix), who changes her hostile attitude afterwards. The coincidence is that YUNG once and again involves in strange cases that are judged by LUN, and is even imprisoned because of him.

LUN subsequently discovers the true identity of Pillow-spirit and the real cause of his assistance: the Pillow-spirit was wrongly accused many years ago; therefore he wants to train the reasoning power of LUN, hoping that LUN can help reverse the previous judgment on him. The judgment relates to the calamity of exterminating a whole family, which unexpectedly involves YUNG!
