A Sentimental Journey focuses on the development of the Sin Fung Ming Opera Troupe, formed by Yam Kim Fai and Pak Suet Sin, the most popular on-stage couple at the time, and also Tong Tic Sang who remains the most notable Cantonese opera writer in Hong Kong art history. Connie Chan, who portrays Yam Kim Fai, herself is also a legendary actress who attained unrivalled popularity in the 60s. Her partner Au Ga-mun, who is Pak Suet Sin in the play, even won the Best Supporting Actress for this play in the Hong Kong Drama Awards, and so did Leung Hon Wai who was awarded the Best Supporting Actor. Dexter Yeung, Connie Chan's own son who is now an actor, appears on stage with his mom for the first time. Written and directed by such veterans Chung King Fai and Raymond To, A Sentimental Journey proves that a highly artistic piece can turn out as well-received as popular cultural productions!

A Great Tribute to Yam/Bak- job well done by Chan Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I am a big Chan Bo Chu fan and also watched some of Yam/Bak's cantonese opera. There will never be another pair such as them. I am happy that Chan Bo Chu decided to take on the role of her sifu and potrayed Yam. Her forte is in Cantonese opera and her voice has gotten stronger through the years. Au Gar Wai who played the role of Bak...I agree with the reviewer that her singing is not up to par but her acting is excellent. I wonder if Bak was like that in real life. I wonder also if Yam and Ah Garm(her boyfriend) ever got back together.
Overall, this stage play is excellent. The guy who played Tong Dik Sang did very well considering I did not know he sings. And yes, Tang Bik Wun - boy, like a cake mold.

I would recommend to anyone who loves watching Chan Bo Chu, Yam Kim Fai and Bak Shuet Sin...you won't be sorry.

Great tribute to Yam Bak Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Another great piece of work by Raymond To ( I have a Date with Spring ). This is a great tribute play to the life and work of Yam Bak. I can not think of a better actress to play Yam than Connie Chan. The actress who played Bak was also really good but when it comes to singing, the high notes was a bit of a let down especailly in the number from the Chinese Opera Princess Cheng Ping -The wedding night scene. But this is very reasonable, who can fill the shoes of Yam and Bak in acting and singing? the surprise was the actress who played the role of Tang Bik Wan she is a real dead ringer of Ms Tang.
