July 6, 2006 Great Vocals, Beautiful SongDong Bang Shin Ki, as known in Korea, has finally released their 5th Japanese single, Begin. Begin is a ballad single that uses beautiful lyrics that are aplified by each member's unique voice. Dong Bang Shin Ki has grown from their "HUG" days into singers worthy of crossing over into the "foreign" Asian market. Each member has improved their vocals and have gained experience beyond their young years.
Begin is a repeat-worthy song that will have you singing along as you learn the lyrics. JaeJoong (Hero) does an excellent job in briging the feeling into the song with the chorus "Every day, Every night with you..." JunSu's powerful voice brings extra feeling to the song as he takes up the background vocals. YunHo is finally given a chance to "put his voice on display." Usually, he is always given the rap or background parts, but this time he adds to this beautifully constructed song with his unique vocal traits. YuCheon begins the song by saying "it's okay to cry at times"--this automatically sets the whole tone of the song. Each member's unique vocal traits are on display here, but together, ToHoShinKi (their name in Japan), is a powerful vocal force to be wreckoned with.
From "Stay With Me Tonight" to "Begin," ToHo Shin Ki proves that their vocals are improving and why their popularity all over Asia is increasing.
The b-side to this single, "High Time," is also an upbeat track--the opposite to "Begin." It has more of a disco-esque feel to it. JunSu takes the lead in this song with his powerful voice.
I recommend this song to anyone who likes Japanese music and consider it to be one of ToHo Shin Ki's best Japanese songs. Even if you aren't a ToHo Shin Ki/Dong Bang Shin Gi fan, give it a try. You just may be amazed at their beautiful vocals. They're not just a pretty face--they're so much more.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

They've shown great improvement from their [HUG] days and I look forward to the years ahead. I especially like this album better than [TRI-ANGLE] because of their vocal improvements. I've noticed that Xiah has much more vocals, which is great, and that U-Know (Yunho) actually has a chance to sing instead of just "rapping." The album is catchy, soothing, fresh, and repeat worthy. I recommend you purchase this title if you're a DBSK fan (like myself), but even if you're not, DBSK just may surprise you with their new tunes. The song "Rising Sun" is pretty spiffy and it was stuck in my head the whole day. The TRAX is also collaborating with DBSK again, but "Free Your Mind" is so different from "TRI-ANGLE." The TRAX is only featured in a small part of the song which is surprisingly a rap. The lyrics to all of the songs are amazing and there's basically something for every person's tastes. At times I like the faster dance beats ("Rising Sun," "Dangerous Mind," & "Free Your Mind."), but sometimes I just want to lay back and listen to ballads ("One," "내가 허락할 테니 [Since I'll Allow It] (LOVE is never gone)," "바보 [Fool] (Unforgettable)," "Tonight," etc.). However there are also those "upbeat ballads" like "Beautiful Life," "Love Is," and "Love After Love.") The only thing that's missing is heavy rock, but I don't miss it at all. DBSK allows their voices and talents to shine through in this album. The only thing better is seeing them preform these songs onstage. Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
