昭和14年に東京・文京区に生まれた講談師・六代目一龍斎貞水は、古典のみならず様々な創意工夫を凝らした新しいスタイルの講談を生み出している。中でも彼のライフワークとも言える「新立体怪談」は高い評価を得ており、いつしか彼は"怪談の貞水"の異名をとるようになった。本作には、'81年8月「花王名人劇場」にて放送され話題となった「アニメ四谷怪談」を収録。鶴屋南北の傑作「東海道四谷怪談」を一龍斎貞水の語りとアニメーション映像で見事に再現。貞水の巧みな語りが恐怖と不気味さを倍増させている。アニメーション演出は大塚康生。
