Two directors, two different ideas perhaps? Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
This film is nowhere near as good as BR1, nor is it as imaginative.

The fact that the director died, leaving his son to direct and finish the film is very evident, and it would be interesting to know which parts were added after the father's death. I find the film to be on two different levels;

1: The typical blood and guts action gore that you'd expect from a BR film;

2: The totally unnecessary, and childish political message trying to be portrayed. Why on earth does the teacher in the film make a reference to countries being bombed by America, then launch into the BR2 game, with no apparent link? Baffling.

The final scenes are typical of a young, naive Japanese director who knows absolutely nothing about the outside world. I'm assuming that the scenes were supposed to be set in Afghanistan, but again, for what reason? The message seems to be that a few greedy, selfish adults control the world (America in particular), that people like the Japanese Prime Minister wil sell out to appease these people, and that terrorism...oops...I mean 'freedom fighters' are the saviour. Complete bollox! The imaging, linking the Nanahara Freedom Fighter's attack on Tokyo is sick, as it makes deliberate references to the attack on New Yorks Twin Towers of September 11th!

Highly disappointing, nowhere as near as good as the first film. Hopefully a re-edit will be made, cutting out all the political crap, and leaving this film as it should have been....a Japanese blood fest with a relevant underlying message!

what a deception Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
What this movie miss disperately is irony. There is no second degree, everything is taken to the letter, and what made the first so intriguing is now completely gone. I am surely sensible to the political issues raised by the movie and related to the post 11 September situation, but the movie is so confused that it really fails to make any point. The connections with the Afghanistan context explicitly raised through the movie are almost embarassing, the characters are shallows, and the dialogues most of the time ridicoulous. Surely a big deception.

this time it's war. Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
First: don't go into this expecting to see the first movie again. (What would be the point, anyway?) This film goes in an entirely different direction.

BR2 is eminently watchable. I was riveted throughout. It's got its moments of dark comedy, its spectacular battles, its brilliant set pieces and gorgeous sets. It's also not very subtle.

That, in a nutshell, is what keeps me from rating it a 10. Its presentation of its themes leaves very little open to interpretation, and the characters, by and large, are flat. This is consistent with the original book, but it's not something that works in film.

Nonetheless, watch it. It won't appeal to all BR fans, but you should see it and make up your own mind.

BR II Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
BR II is certainly a special movie and a clever follow on from the original movie. I am not dissapointed.
The special edition box set is well worth the extra money... special or limited edition, I'm not sure. Mine is No 86 and now here in England.

A good sequel Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
The main idea has not changed a bit but the new draft list is kinda lacking in attention to the audience .I will say that the movie is still as staGGering as the first.
A real fan of the first movie should really pick up were the first film left off of.
Rest in piece of the director of the first BATTLE ROYALE

understatement of the year Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
I thought it was horrible. The dialogue was flat, the action got redundant.. almost to the point where there was no individuality between the kills (unlike the first one)... the relationships/ character development was weak and most of the characters stayed static.

Everyone warned me that this movie was, "not as good as the first one." After watching this movie, that statement really is the understatement of the year.

BRII Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Well, personally i really like Battle Royale 2, not as good as the first, but that would be one hard task to beat it!
The Box Set is amazing, it comes with loads of cool stuff, a wrist bangle, and a BRII necklace, as well as a class photo, stickers etc.

Well worth your money in my opinion.

REVIEWING BEFORE YOU WATCH IS RUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
This is for all those of you who are giving everything 10 stars becuase you want to watch it, dont. A review means you have already watched it, by giving it a 10 will affect the way people spend their hard earn money (40 bucks is a lot of money.. and yes I am poor if you're asking). Not only are you giving people the wrong impressing but it is rude like talking on a digital phone in the movies. I am sorry for writting this in the review... and I know I am going against my own words by writting his when I've not seen the movie. But this was the only way to express the way I feel, cuz reviews like that arent helpful and I've seen them every where I only hope to make a different... so forgive me for taking up you time.

Pretty Damn Good Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I just saw BR2 at the London Film Festival yesterday, with English subtitles (distributed by the lovely Tartan Video company) and it was awesome.

Not nearly as good as the first one, but very entertaining and poignant. Whereas the first film deals with things on a personal level ("Could you kill your best friend?" as the tagline goes), this one is much wider in scope. It raises a lot of questions about what we perceive as terrorism, and the state of the world.

The acting could have been an awful lot better (the principle new character is pretty terrible, most of the time), but some of it was great. The flashback featuring Beat Takeshi (Kitano from the first film) was excellent. Sonny Chiba has a cameo as Shinji Mimura's uncle, which was a pleasant surprise.

The direction in the non-action scenes could have been a bit tighter, but the battle scenes themselves are amazing. The music was mostly recycled from the first film, but that's not a bad thing really - it was excellent before, and it is excellent now.

Anyway, pretty good. Can't wait for this to be released.
