good "black comedy"

This movie has all the elements of a good "black comedy": humor,intrigue, suspense and really ugly murders. The story is well written, and well acted (though the Chinese dubbing masks the true talents of the Korean actors). I found myself laughing out loud at the comedic scenes. The supernatural element in the story is an unexpected twist,adding to the unusual plot. As the story unfolds, the innocent-appearing honeymoon couples' surprising--sometimes startling--secrets are revealed. As the truth behind their relationships is exposed, the plot and the relationships become more interesting and more complicated, but not confusing. Many of the brief, non-nude bedroom scenes are truly funny, particularly those of the older couple and the woman with the inexperienced husband who calls his mother for instruction after helplessly attempting various ideas from a magazine he's looking at. The focus eventually shifts to select couples whose lives are strangely intertwined, interspersed with the antics of the others and the serious police investigation of the murder. As various witnesses are interviewed by the detective, more of the story is uncovered, giving a very different picture of the couples than when the story opened. All in all, this is a good movie,with elements of humor and the dark side of the human psyche well-balanced. |
