Professional Review of "Blackhole (Hong Kong Version)"

June 18, 2008

This professional review refers to Blackhole

Brand new style: "Blackhole" ~ Jordan Chan Siu Chun

Released a Cantonese album and held several concerts at the Hong Kong Coliseum in February, Jordan Chan, in less than three months' time, unbelievably delivers to his fans again. He surprises them this time by releasing in Taiwan the exciting 10-track "Blackhole", his latest annual Mandarin album.

"Blackhole" has already been the eighth Mandarin album of Jordan's. Distinguishing from the Funny Music, dance music, R&B and Hip-hop in the earlier stages of his career, the concept album comprises Hard Rock & Roll and it stands for the huge progress made by Jordan.

The album of "Blackhole" marks another milestone for Jordan's vivid singing career. Instead of Hip-Hop and R&B, in the album. Instead, Hard Rock & Roll takes charge and rules the house, with only a few of the Jordan-trademarked ballads remain. The present reviewer save his opinion on the breakthrough attempt for now. In general, the quality of this album is guaranteed.

The upbeat setting and arrangement of "36th Century" (Track#1), the leading track, is playful and fiction-like. Unfortunately, its lyrics are ordinary. The theme song of a commercial "This Life" (Track#4) is the Mandarin version of "Surrounded By Girls". Both the rhythm and lyrics of it are ordinary though it is still a touching ballad.

"Wail" (Track#7), the Mandarin version of "Share The Life Together", is rhythmic but with extremely saddening lyrics which do not exactly match with the cheering music. That is also the reason why the present reviewer prefers the Cantonese to the Mandarin version.

The feeling projected by "Double Yellow Line" (Track#8) is similar to that of "36th Century". Yet, this is the better one as Jordan performs more satisfactorily. As for the others, "Who Do You Love Most" (Track#2), "Guts" (Track#5) and "A Pair" (Track#9) are worthy of listening to.

Not too bad Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
When i first listened to the track 'Fen Liu' i loved it. But then i found out that it's only a Cantonese translation of a Mandarin version called 'No Doorbell' sang by Victor PinGuan- which is much better than Jordan's. The other Canto song, 'Wan Sui', is so bad that it's laughable.
The reviewer finds the Mandarin versions of 'XiangYiWeiMing' and 'ZuoRongYouPo' not as good as the originals. The Mando lyrics just simply don't fit.
As for the other songs, the reviewer only finds the song 'Who is most loved' interesting to listen to- thanks to the sexy voices of the girls in the background!
Overall, a daring move to change from RnB to Rock..But this is simply not Jordan. He should stick to what he's best at- RnB!

disappointed! Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
am a jordan's fan! but am realli disappointed wiv diz album! his previous albums were much better than diz one. i can say, heartless you album is better!! diz new album is just not jordan anymore who always keeps in track wiv rnb. diz album content of songs typical of american songs wiv fast beats, suitable for party thingy. and i dont like it, well if the beats as similar as justin timberlake's (like i love you or senorita) or the neptunes' beats, i realli enjoy it. but all songs in diz album is like jordan forced himself to sing this typical of songs which i think its not suitable for him.

Must Have! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
"Seperate Flow" is a great song. Definitely adds a flavor to this HK Version of the album.

Being that I've been so used to Jordan's Hip Hop & R&B style of music in his previous albums, I honestly have to say I was very impressed with this album! Great album! Wonderful tracks. The feelings to each song was expressed very well & with much power.

I like his R&B flavor more... Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
The first time I ever heard Jordan Chan, I was thrilled to find that a Chinese man is singing R&B. Anyways, so I picked up his Night Life album, then the next day, Black Hole. Jordan switched it up and went more towards the rocker style, which I'm not used to. It's not bad, but just different. I love the R&B style MORE and wished that Black Hole had more of that. Oh well, thanks for reading!!!
