民國五年初秋，潮州栗縣柳安鎮，闖來五個越獄逃犯，為首的宋榮（宋天），帶著他的四個兄弟康鬍子（康莊）、陳龍（陳小龍）、潘七（小廣東）、王猴子（王若平），直奔栗縣退休得警長江濤（江洋）家，五個兇犯各施奪命拳卻將江濤打死，又姦殺了江妻（陳淑芳），已報他們三年前被江濤追捕之仇。江濤有女名翠鳳（路小慧），身懷武功，江濤夫婦被害之時，適逢翠鳳至鄰鎮購藥。黃昏，翠鳳返家發現父母遭此橫禍，不勝悲痛。遂取其母腕上之銀鈴，離家尋找仇人。
途中，遇陌生客魏川（高山），翠鳳誤以為仇家予以政擊，魏川武功比翠鳳高很多，三五回合翠鳳即難招架。魏川表明身份，原來他父親和江濤是同門師兄，父得知五狂徒越獄，必會找江濤報仇，命他趕至栗縣保護江濤，不料，遲來一步，江濤夫婦已遭殺害。翠鳳將父母被害的情形告訴魏川，魏川決定協助翠鳳追查兇手，並授以八步連環追魂腳絕招，以對付五名武功高強的狂徒。翠鳳、魏川至明香鎮，無意間遇到潘七，翠鳳手上的銀鈴聲使潘七失魂落魄。魏川、翠鳳誘之入冷巷，潘七頑抗，一場打鬥潘七傷重斃命，臨死供出康鬍子藏匿於磚廠窖洞。
翠鳳假扮賣花女混入磚廠誘敵，康鬍子嚐色，果被引出。魏川、翠鳳力戰頑強康鬍子，由黃昏至落日，康鬍子負傷逃命，失足跌斃。
魏川知王猴子為職業賭徒，必在賭場出沒，於是與翠鳳分成兩路到保平賭坊。
翠鳳女伴男裝滲入賭場，魏川躲在暗處守株待兔，至深夜，王猴子果然光臨賭場詐賭，翠鳳為證實王猴子確實為仇家，故意賭輸，將銀鈴擲於桌上壓款.....
