Set on a US military airbase in postwar Japan, the 2000 animated feature Blood: The Last Vampire revolves around a mysterious katakana-wielding female demon slayer, believed to be the last remaining vampire. Decked in her trademark sailor suit, Saya hunts Chiroptera, bat-like creatures that live on human blood, for a secret organization called Red Shield. Directed by Kitakubo Hiroyuki with animation by Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell) and Aniplex (Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist), Blood: The Last Vampire was filmed almost completely in English, a first for Japanese anime. As the planner and visual concept director, anime auteur Oshii Mamoru played a principle role in the creation and release of Blood: The Last Vampire. The popular gothic noir feature has also spawned a manga, light novel series, an anime series, and a live-action Hollywood remake starring Jeon Ji Hyun.

Way too short Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
The first time I saw this anime was on VHS tape and I did like it and I still have it.But even though it is well made anime I still think it is very short film and not enough depth in story telling.To me a full lenth anime is 90 mins or more long.
It is worth buying if you are a huge manga fan and I sill think that the people who made it should make it a real full lenth anime.

I have this on VCD. I don't even think this short film needs to be in DVD format! It's like an hour long or something. The story was okay, I thought that they could better explain things. The ending wasn't too bad, but definitely needs better closure for a movie. I give this a 6. Not your Vampire Hunter D for sure!

Brilliant anime, proffesional drawing - a good story, very little comedy involved. Some good sword scenes and techniques. Too short is my only mark against it. Definatley part of the anime elite on display here. Jr. Lee Beckford
