Cheng Wen Tang's third feature-length movie Blue Cha Cha received the Best Original Film Score prize at the 2005 Golden Horse Awards, and was officially selected for the Tokyo, Pusan, and Rotterdam International Film Festivals. Singer-turned-actress Tarcy Su plays ex-convict A-yu who suffers from depression. Always in a blue mood, she experiences tremendous loneliness, as if alone in the deep sea - a recurring motif in the movie as well as the literal translation of the Chinese film title. Scenes depicting the lonely A-yu create some of the film's most emotionally intense moments which will surely touch all viewers.

A-yu's yearning for love has never been met with satisfaction. Her friend Ann, occasionally resembling a motherly figure more than a friend, seems to be her only unfailing companion. Liu Yi Ching, who appears in almost every Tsai Ming Liang movie, plays the calm and tranquil friend of A-yu. Handsome Taiwanese star Li Wei from the popular duo WEWE and charismatic actor Leon Dai, who is perhaps best known for his directorial attempt Twenty Something Taipei, play two men whose fugitive romances with A-yu leave her with unbearable pain. She might be able to find the cure to heartache in dancing the Cha Cha with Ann on the embankment, or in the smile of a mysterious and autistic man sitting by the deep blue sea...
