When Blythe was introduced by Kenner in 1972, it is safe to say that nobody could have predicted she would be such a longstanding hit among fans the world over. The first Blythe dolls looked much like the ones being produced today - a poseable cutie with a gigantically oversized head sporting a variety of the hippest outfits imaginable. But for some reason, the trend never caught on, and Blythe was discontinued after one short year.
Luckily, the story doesn't end here. A longtime Blythe fan, photographer Gina Garan, photographed her Blythe dolls in various settings and poses and published the photos in a spectacular photo collection, sparking a worldwide trend and spawning literally hundreds of Blythe fansites where people show off their own Blythe dolls. At the present, Blythe is manufactured by the Japanese company Takara, and is available on YesAsia.com.
