Originally created in 1972, Blythe dolls were produced for only one year, and were recalled after the color-changing eyes proved too scary for children. However, over the years these vintage dolls began to skyrocket in price, especially after photographer Gina Garan started using Blythe as her subject for photo exhibitions in 1999. By 2001, the first of the Neo-Blythes were on the market and have since been gaining rapid popularity. In fact, whenever a limited edition Blythe is produced it is sold by lottery, to avoid riots!
