Crazy, Sexy, Cool Debut!

CD [23.29 mins] Although Lady Garden’s three ladies here don’t seem to have a garden trowel between them, this cute trio certainly have planted the seed of a good rhythmic electronic dance mini album here to sow good further interest. “Brand New Day” is a worthy 7 track mini album full of chirpy electronic dance songs and nice strong vocals. The repeat button should certainly come into play with “Sarmakahyae – I’m Doing Okay” [track 3] and “Ppo Ppo” [track 5], which are two very catchy upbeat tracks. By the first main song “Sarang-un opsda” [track 2] it seems that this mini album could be a more ballad filled affair. Its a nice strong mid tempo power ballad, too, that wouldn’t be out of place as a musical motif in a K-romance drama. But although opening with this style, Lady Garden swiftly let their hairs down with the remaining 5 tracks which are a mix of upbeat dance rhythms - disco, techno and a bit of Latin and Spanish fused boogie electronics, to put Lady Garden in a more dance orientated groove (or is it grove?). Still, as like many electronic dance songs “Ppo Ppo” [track 5] features a synthesized filtered 'broken vocal' sound, and although it does sound cute, catchy and workable it would have been interesting to have heard a ‘pure’ vocal mix as well. The instrumental version of “Sarmakahyae” [track 7] is also a nice addition for some Karaoke time. Booklet wise, this is a digi pack type with photos inside of the gals. Mainly black and white on silver monotone photos with a few colour ones and additional liner notes and lyrics. This is a good debut from Lady Garden and I’m sure that there's more to come from this trio. I’d certainly recommend them if you like the Wonder Girls, Girl’s Generation, Kara and electronic disco dance type music albums such as Jung Hwa Uhm’s D.I.S.C.O. mini album CD. No I haven’t got confused with Hotcha above, as the title is related to a lyric line from “Ppo Ppo” and I think this CD is….really cool. Very upbeat and catchy. Lady Garden somewhat brought to mind Korean trio See Ya by some of the vocals and mainly by the song “Sarang-un opsda”. Hopefully they will be just as popular! Lastly apologies if the Korean romanization isn’t quite right. I’m trying to translate from hangul more. |
