Brown Eyes Vol.2 - Reason 4 Breathing?

Before even listening to the music, the album sleeve of Brown Eyes gives us the “Reason for Breathing”; filled with words of wisdom and a brilliant design of communicating understanding of the Creator. The music seems to prepare us for meditating and reflecting on this understanding with the soothing jazz and R&B.

Many of the songs lack coherence, though. You have jumbled lyrics that are dry because it follows no beat, but the great vocal performances and success in falsetto bolster the song back up. Do not presume though that these songs are poorly written. In fact these tracks are unique, difficult to envision, and tremendously creative. One of the best albums if you are into critical and creative music.

I would rather have you listen to this music, and form your own opinion, as it deserves so.

Jesse’s Journey into Selected Tracks:

Track 3. Acoustic guitar solo combined with a jazzy feel make this track slow but catchy, The upbeat factor create a café setting type of flavor, while it fits the subject about an anticipation of a date but later being stood up. Can you relate? =)

Track 4. This begins with a male solo intro with the beat kicking in later transforming the song into slow soft rock. When the chorus enters, we understand that this slow song is about a man serenading a woman after a breakup, and consequently expresses his hurt feelings in a form of rhetorical soliloquy. Battling denial, this song delivers truth of love.

Track 6. The light piano beginning shapes an 80’s feel but progressively this slow beat leads to a mellow rap duet between significant others, a display Korean freestyle. The English interlude is also impressive especially with the charming falsetto at the end.

Track 7. A soundtrack instrumental song played in piano, this track starts with a slow intro then deeply progresses into a nice concert hall-ish-but-not-classical piece. From the start, the melody develops and just gets better from there. A friend comments that this sounds like a theme song for Korean soap operas.

Track 11. This track uses a strong chorus of nice, high progression in combination with a very good melody that incorporates deep varying tones. The rich vocal demonstrates the capability and potential to hit a range of notes well and embodies Korean R&B at its best. The addition of acoustic guitar playing rounds of flamenco style solos adds to strength of this song.

Jesse’s Junction: This album moved me, and their style ought to be admired and imitated by others seeking success.
