Shen Jiang, director of 1971's The Rescue and the man who penned the script for the 1965 Shaw Brothers classic Temple of the Red Lotus, served double duty as both the screenwriter and the director for Call to Arms, an epic historical saga that was most certainly a labor of love for the filmmaker.

Released in Hong Kong theaters in 1972, the film takes place in China's distant past and centers on three very different kingdoms locked in a grueling battle with one another. Some fight for total domination, while others simply vie for survival! Each of the three kingdoms is plagued by its own problems. Although the Wei Empire has many heroes willing to fight and die for their cause, the empire is plagued by poor leadership. Meanwhile, the hostile, war-mongering Chin Empire is unhappy with its current status and seeks to expand its kingdom.
