Adapted from a popular game, hit period drama Chinese Paladin (a.k.a The Magic Sword & The Chivalrous Youngsters) is a crowd-pleasing fusion of fantasy, action, adventure, and romance. Mainland stars Crystal Liu Yifei (Return of the Condor Heroes) and Hu Ge, who vaulted to fame with this drama, lead an all-star cast of young idols and established actors from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Taiwan idol drama regulars Eddie Peng (Honey & Clover), Ady An (The Outsiders), and Esther Liu of Sweety (Westside Story) give memorable supporting performances, along with an amazing extended cast that includes Cheng Pei Pei, Patrick Tam, Tse Kwan Ho, Rachel Lee, Ben Wong, Cheung Sai, Joanne Zeng of Sweety, Achel Chang, and Elvis Tsui as the deliciously evil villain. Determined to save his ill aunt, carefree youth Li Xiao Yao (Hu Ge) sets sail to the mysterious Dream Island where he is told a cure can supposedly be found. There he meets and falls in love with the beautiful Ling'er (Crystal Liu), and they seal their love in marriage. What Xiao Yao doesn't know is that his trip to Dream Island was actually set up by the evil Lunar Sect Cult as part of their plan to capture Ling'er. He heads home with his aunt's cure in hand and his promises to Ling'er in heart, but when he wakes up, all his memories of Dream Island have disappeared...

Please excuse me for writing in the reviews once more, but I have a few unanswered inquiries about the discs. ^^;
First, how are the English subtitles? (rate them on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being worst and explain why) How is the picture quality? Finally, have any scenes been cut out?

I heard that the story was based on an RPG video game, but i never played it so i had no idea about the plot. The story starts out slow and if you you are looking for good fight scenes, you'll be disappointed. The fight scenes do come off very B rate and cheesy. However, once you get past that, you learn that this story is one massive drama and that the slow pace to the story helps develop all the characters. The lines and the message that are delivered are very profound. I love buying these DVD sets because it has dual audio for both Cantonese and Mandarin, and barring some very few minor typos, the English subtitles for this series are really good though you'll have to get use to the main character referred as "Freeman". Crystal Liu Yifei is once again beautiful, however the whole cast do a very good job of bringing you into their world. Definitely worth the watch, though be warned that if you watch it all the way to the end, you will desire an alternate ending.

I'm still waiting for the English Subtitle to get sent to me... I've been waiting for WEEKS NOW! I know it was only on pre-order... but the status should've changed to "sending." I'M EXCITED!

Despite what others have said, I would definitely buy this series if it had English subtitles. :) I loved how the mythology of Nu Wa was interwoven into the story.

I gotta have English Sub on this one. I can't wait to buy it! Please YA! Get on with it! Thanks.... I love epic series. Liu Yi Fei is on Condor Heroes and and she portrayed her role perfectly. I can't wait to have another one of her series.
