It's life as usual for Rob Hawkins (Michael Stahl-David), his brother Jason (Mike Vogel), and their friends as they gather for a party on May 22. Rob is transferring to Japan soon, and everyone is caught up with their respective relationship dramas. But all thoughts fly out of the window when New York City suddenly comes under the attack of a giant monster. The monster tears through the city, ravaging buildings and people alike, as the military scramble to fight back. The city is being evacuated, but Rob and his friends decide they have to first find their friend Beth (Odette Yustman). With camera in hand, they head out into the battle zone.

Directed by Matt Reeves and produced by J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias), Cloverfield has redefined the monster movie. Shot in the cinema verite style, the film applies the Blair Witch aesthetic - POV hand-cam, non-famous actors - to viscerally present the monster attack from the point of view of a small group of friends. Shrouded in secrecy during production, Cloverfield generated a lot of buzz up to its release and became a worldwide hit.
