Every Little Thing "Commonplace"- Please Drop Rock & Stick to Ballads The 6th album of Every Little Thing is titled "Commonplace". But is it really that commonplace or is it just another word for "commercial" because of a number of advertisement theme songs that are featured? With this top-notch Japanese group in the house, you can always expect some high quality production and the 11 tunes on this album are no exception. There is, however, still plenty of room for improvement concerning the range of Mochida Kaori's voice. Some songs actually expose certain flaws of this vocalist. It is however still pleasing to hear her pure sweet voice with the soft guitar playing in the background. This is why "Weather of Love" (Track 1), which is meticulously arranged, is the best choice to start the album. The upbeat rock tune "Ultimate Love" (Track 2), which is also a theme song of a beverage commercial, and the rock version of "Country Road" and "Life Cycle" are groovy enough to get the party started. However, the relatively weak vocal of Kaori cannot give these tunes the best effects. The same comment actually applies to "Time Goes By" (Track 9). There is proof that in one acoustic live show held on Christmas Kaori apparently undertook a thankless task while performing this song live. It was definitely not what the fans expected to see their beloved singer try so hard but in vain. While rock tunes may not work the best for Kaori, she gives a better performance on milder sounds such as "Water (s)", "View of Fortune"(Track 4) and "Beginning of A Day" (Track 6). "Ooh La Ooh La La" (Track 8) is also one amusing track with its lyrics conveying optimistic perspectives towards our beautiful life. The piece of advice offered by the reviewer to Every Little Thing is that since hard rock may not be their cup of tea, why not concentrate on those soft ballads? Excellent...
| I had never bought much music by bands, as I tend to prefer solo singers. But, after hearing that the singer of this band is a female with a fabulously intoxicating voice: I had to try it. And WOW! Is this great stuff, or what? I adore this CD and the singer is just outstanding. She can SING! And the music is just right for the sound of her voice. I love everything about this CD EXCEPT for the English song. I prefer my Japanese CDs to be all in Japanese. The song is good and well sung, but I would like it better in Japanese (that's just my own preference). However, it does show diversity and add something different to the tone of the CD. Let me say: this Cd is NOT "commonplace"! It stands out by sheer artistry. BUY THIS and you will fall in love. Now, I want ALL their CDs, so I'm off to see what YESASIA has in stock by them. I'm so impressed by this band. I will be supporting all their future releases, and in the meantime...this CD will be played almost non-stop! |

ELT's new album is totally awesome! Eleven songs, one instrumental (Interluido~ Meridiana), and one bonus song added! The DVD includes their making of the pics of commonplace, as well as a special performance of "Time goes by"! "Soraai" is their newest single, and it really grows on you. Very calm and sweet sounding, which is totally different from "Fundamental Love", the song following it. water(s) is a really interesting song (one of the best in the album). It has this lazy feel to it, very calming and catchy; "Uraurara" also has this type of feel to it, and it's super catchy too! "Country Road" and "Life Cycle" are the more fast songs in the album, with Kaori singing in english for "Country Road". They're both beaty songs and they fit smoothly between the songs around it. Satsukiame is a wonderful ballad and it's definitely a must-listen! "commonplace" is definitely a must-have album, whether for fans, or just for easy-listening. The album is set in a way where you can't get tired of listening to the songs over and over again! |
