Great story, worth keeping
| The story is great, and the visuals were fantastic! It's a keeper! The acting was very credible, and the kung fu sequences were graceful and well executed. Not a dull moment. The protagonists made a great looking couple. |

Crystal Liu Yifei is a beautiful Dragon Girl
Crystal Liu Yifei is a beautiful Dragon Girl
| Be careful as other versions of this DVD boxset that are cheaper actually has scenes cut! The more expensive version put out by Tai Seng will have a different cover art that says UNCUT version. This new version has spectacular scenery, costumes, and fight scenes. The character development and dialogue however was better in the 83 version so it's recommended to watch that to understand the backgrounds and full stories of some of the minor characters. The highlight to this movie without a doubt is Liu Yifei. She is absolutely stunning as Dragon Girl. I find myself fast forwarding fight scenes just to see more of her and Yang Guo. All the scenes with them together are extremely dramatic, almost to the point of making you cry. You'll recognize alot of the music from this series from Inuyasha and other soundtracks. The english subs are pretty decent too. The one biggest disappointment will come all the way at the ending as you'll find it ends very abruptly but other than that, definitely worth the purchase to own this version of part 2 of the Condor Heroes Trilogy. |

Love This
| This is a really good series. Love the effects love everything about this series. Love This! the story line was just like the old one and i have watched the old one so many times. There are just some changes but good change is good. This version didn't just copy the old one. It had its own style to the story which i think is really good. |

Condor Hero
| My parents and friends that I am a Wuxia Fanatic. I have read the first book (Legend of the Eagle shooting hero) except for the last chapter which I couldn't find in English anywhere ) : !!! I have also read the second book (Return of the Condor Heroes) once and am currently reading again. I really like the condor hero movie/TV show '06. It's somewhat different then the book bu it's still great. My favorite character is Eastern Heretic Huang Yaoshi but I' too young so I'm content with being little eastern heretic Xaing . I also like the movie because there's no kissing and a lot of fighting. Condor Hero Rocks!!! Next I'm going to read Heaven Directed Sword, Dragon Slaying Saber. Louis Cha is such a great writer. If you liked Condor Hero I suggest that you read Legend of the Eagle Shooting Hero which is all about Huang Rong & Guo Jing and Mu Nianci & Yang Kang. After reading it you'll understand Return of the Condor Heroes better and understand why Huang Rong hated Yang Guo's Father. |

A must See
A must See
| This turned out to be my top most faviorate show of all time. It's has great effects and a beautiful story. Infact one of the most touching stories I have seen. However the reason I didn't give it a perfect score is simply because of the subtitles. The english subtitles are good but not great. They are not... perfect, out of 100% the english subtitles get 75% because it is almost like broken english or just not great grammer. However you get the point of what they are trying to say and thats all that really matters. I recommend this to anyone who is NOT picky about perfect subtitles. But would enjoy a great story. |

Better than the first
Better than the first
| Viewing both The Return of the Condor Hero and the newer version, thumbs up, 5 stars for the newer version. Unlike Jack, I liked that there was more emotional outburst from the leading male star. It makes it that much more heart tugging. I have watched this TV series several times and don't believe I will ever tire watching it. |

Huge Disappointment
Huge Disappointment
|
Having read the novel many times and loved the classic 83 version, I was hoping this will be an updated version of the story. It was a HUGE let down. CAST: Let's start with Yang Guo. The kid Yang Guo is so annoying and unwatchable I wanted to fast foward most of his parts. He also had no resemblance to the older Yang Guo. The older version isn't much better. Casting someone with pop star looks isn't a good way to choose your lead actor. He overacts and loses all the subtle playfulness of Yang Guo, instead, he hits us over the head with a brick to try to get his character across with emotional outbursts everytime he's on the screen. He is also unwatchable until he reunites with Xiao Long Nu, the first time they came out of the Passionless Valley, from then on he doesn't spazz out until he sees Xiao Long Nu again 16 years later. I also hated how he treated all the women he encounters, instead of playful flirting he seemed more like a scumbag with a pocketful of condoms. Xiao Long Nu by Liu Yu Fei was much better than Yang Guo. Physically she's very pure looking and in that sense fits the role. However I felt she lacked strength... Just because you can put eye drops in your eyes to make yourself cry doesn't mean you should everytime you see Yang Guo. The rest of the casts are overall passable. Guo Jing seemed a bit weak and unsure compared to how he appeared to be in the novel. Huang Rong was ok, could be a bit more clever and more of a smirk on her face. Jinlun Fawang felt a bit too playful for someone of his stature. Two characters stood out to me though among the supporting cast: Guo Fu and Li Mo Cho. The actress that played Guo Fu was so pretty that I thought she overpowered some of the scenes. Li Mo Cho was one that I thought that did a very good job of acting. Story: Stayed fairly true to the novel, which is a great relief. Action: some good fighting scenes... but too much cutting/special effects that took away the real action. And what's up with all the Dragon Ball style fighting? People floating in the middle of air for no reason... Sets and locations: Pretty damn good job here, big part of the reason to do an update. My only complain is Ancient Tomb looks funny as hell. A house on a stick in the middle of an underground lake. The only exit is to fly through the hole on the ceiling? Special effects: Hated the special effects. Especially when it involves the kung fu. It made this series look like cheesy low budget chinese deity legends than a wusha story... why are there swords made of flower flying when Yang Guo and Xiaolongnu are trying to master the Maiden Finesse? The umbrella fighting scene between Li Mo Cho and Xialongnu was a good idea but poorly executed... The list goes on and on. A lot of the special effects hurt the story more than they helped it. Overall I find the acting just ok. But with Yang Guo horrible and had no chemistry with Xialongnu, you can't save the series with great location, sets and decent supporting cast. The special effects were more of a distraction than help. Sky Dragon Eight Parts didn't have this much special effects but was much more effective... The director over-dramatized a lot of the dialogue and scenes. He should of trusted in the story more and let that be the back bone of the series, instead we are treated to emotional outbursts and bad special effects for this ambitious but not quite meeting the expectation tv series. |

A most entertaining series
A most entertaining series

Aside from "Eternity: A Chinese Ghost Story" with Barbie Hsu and Daniel Chan, "Condor Hero" has to be one of the BEST series in the history of Asian entertainment--- Every bit deserving of a big fat A grade. Although the graphics could've been better in terms of looking real, it's hard to judge such a superb piece on that alone. Huang and Liu both carried out their roles flawlessly. Such a duo are hard to find in any series today so kudos to the director. Most entertaining and heartfelt, this is truly a must see series!! |
