don't like Customer Review Rated Bad 1 - 1 out of 10
I like old version better, this series only have beautiful scenes. But main actors Can't act at all!
I can't stand main actors whenever they appear...they ruin whole series..sorry!
I really prefer old version. This series director should focus ion storyline and acting rather than only beautiful scenes.

review of 2006 condor heros Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
well, i have seen both versions of TVB the 80s and 90s, the best is the 80s then the 90s, however, the speical effects are very good for the 2006. however, the story line is rushed, and skips alot of the story line (i.e. the 2006 version has 45 shows, unlike the 80s that has 50 shows [that shows the complete story]. the 90s version the main character yeung gao (he is played by the same actor from the young kid to the great hero). not like both versions (80s and 2006) played by a kid. get the 80s version only.

Great series but poor editing Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
This TV series has high production value and superb cinematography filmed in widescreen. The action sequences and CG/visual effects were great. However, like many viewers have already stated, the editing was terrible! There were many scenes where it was obvious that there's more to it, either more action or more dialog, but all of a sudden they were cut short and skipped to the next scene. I'm sure that they did film those extra footage, but poor editing in keeping at 45-46 minute length per episode plague the series. Hopefully they'll release a "director's cut" edition in the future to show the missing scenes if enough fans starts to complain about it.

Romantic Fantastic Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
There are not enough mainland series with English sub-titles but here we have all episodes of the latest version of the tale of the Return of the Condor Hero. And it is great fun, combining romance, drama and martial arts. I didn't know any of the actresses before but Liu Yifei, Kong Ling and Meng Gwongmei are all terrific. Some people are not keen but I love the blue streaks in Meng Gwongmei's hair (she is one mean woman though ultimately we understand her tragedy). I was not familiar with the story, set in the Song dynasty, and found it quite difficult to follow at first but it all comes together as the episodes progress. The boxed set is attractive and the DVD discs play well; note that some discs imply they only have chinese sub-titles but that is not the case - all episodes have English sub-titles; admittedly, the English translations can be ropey at times, to put it mildly, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment. More films like this, please.

[ so/so ] Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
The quality of the DVDs on this set is EXCELLENT! However, the english subtitles aren't. It's like someone put the translations through BABELFISH or something. These are literal translations and have not been refined for non-native speakers/writers of Chinese. For example, when XLN is talking about the Ancient Tomb Sect, the English subtitles say "GUMU PIE" instead of "Ancient Tomb Sect."

What's worse is that you cannot turn off the Chinese subtitles; in other words, they are hard subs. However, the good thing about their location is that they do not interefere with the film as they are positioned in the letterbox. The English subs appear on the picture above the Chinese subs.

Also, the editing is bad. For example...SPOILERS...if you don't want to know...don't read ahead...

XLN = xiao long nu
GWM = golden wheel monk (Jin Lun)
QZS = quan zhen sect
YG = yang guo

When XLN kills a certain character, she has to fight GWM and the QZS priests. The editors have hacked off the part where XLN and them fight. They jump to the scene where XLN is falling and YG catches her; she is suddenly injured. Viewers unfamiliar with the story will be CONFUSED.

Again, I stress bad editing. The ending is very rushed as well. It will leave you saying, "WHAT? THAT'S IT?"

The DVD-BOX isn't very sturdy. It's taped/glued together. The DVD holders can peel off pretty easily. Not very good packaging for something I paid 70 USD for.

However, as advertised, this is a very "fashionable" series.

If you have the cash, go for it. If not, I think you'll find a better experience with the older versions although the effects are outdated compared to ROCH 2006.

The best ever? Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
It certainly is the best ever. Although some fans might question the series inconsistent speed with the novels, at least, it is very loyal to the story. Except for some other fighting sequences where it's hard to immitate in real drama, it's following the storyline closely. And mind you, Yang Guo here lost the correct arm, instead of the left arm by Andy Lau.

well... Customer Review Rated Bad 2 - 2 out of 10
I think this show was pretty draggy in the middle..
the atmosphere/setting was nice at first but as you watch it..it seems to just get boring; Shu Qi's show (which I'm also currently watching) is even more interesting..

but you can spend money buying this for the sake of its effects which I think is cutely done..
but I just can't stand this legend.. My mom likes louis's version much more.. don't know why??!!

A Disappointing Condor Hero Customer Review Rated Bad 3 - 3 out of 10
Having watched the Mainland China version of Tian Long Ba Bu which is one of the best I've watched, I harbored high expectations for this one BUT I was sorely disappointed.
The producers may claim that this is on of the most stylish martial arts series but the style get in the way of the story telling. In fact sometimes I find the STYLISHNESS silly and irritating.
The scenery of Jiu Zhai Gou is breathtaking I'm sure but must every outdoor scene be shot in this place? Its make the sequence unbelievable.
WXM as Yang Guo is irritating.In fact in some parts when he's supposed to be mischievous, he comes across as bad. LYF as XLN is passable becoz becz she's pretty enough. As XLN has been trained from young to control her emotion she is not expected to show too much emotion and thus LYF's "wooden" acting is OK.
The pace of the series is too slow at some part especially at the beginning and then towards the end the pace seemed too hurried its almost as if the producers suddeenly realized that they do not have much time left and thus hurriedly tried to end the story.
I've once heard that Mr Jin Yong hold his stories dearly.. I think he too would be very disappointed with this one.
