Yes, I agree that bad editing at a few important parts of this remake is rather disappointing, esp. at the end where XLN gets mortally hurt at Chong Yang Gong... but budget limits... I can understand. still, wishing to see the more complete version released. LYF = XLN, no arguments. Comments about her 'wooden' acting is really due to misunderstanding of the XLN character, i.e. she's meant to be like that! HXM acting in as YG is earlier years are somewhat questionable but really grew into the role a third way into things. All in all, I'm proud to add this remake to the other two I have collected, i.e. Andy Lau/Idy Chan (1983) and Louis Koo/Carman Lee (1995). |

VERY DISAPPOINTING (Don't waste your money)
VERY DISAPPOINTING (Don't waste your money)

Following on from watching the China version of The Legend Of Arching Hero (Li Ya Peng) I was hoping for more of the same, a very well balance TV series with excellent actors and almost film like productions. Return of the Condor Heroes in my opinion was very badly put together and nothing like its predecessor. The production looks cheap, too much computer generated graphics, lack of music to set the tone of the story and actors didn't fit the roles. The costumes are silly and hair cuts totally un-authentic. To be honest I wanted to turn it off after the first episode. Anymore wishing to watch a quality China series try the The Legend Of Arching Hero http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/aid-39200/section-videos/code-c/version-all/pid-1004070120/ |

Only OK but beautiful scenery
Only OK but beautiful scenery
| I have watched multiple versions of Condor: Andy Lau, Louis Koo, Richie Yen, and now this one with Huang Xiao Ming. The best is still Andy Lau's version-- even though the series is over 20 years old and the CGI/fight scenes were rudimentary, Andy's series had a lot of character development and a flowing storyline. This version of Condor Heroes has lots of beautiful sceneries and special effects, but the story is disjointed. Some of the actors' make-up, hair and costume are too bizarre. Because all of the actor's voices are dubbed, it is very distracting because it doesn't sound like the actors. Also, in some scenes with the actor playing Yung Gor looks almost retarded (when he laughs). The actress who plays Siu Long Lui is very beautiful but sometimes her acting is very wooden. |

Excellent but too much editing

A great adaptation of louis cha's novel - the return of the condor heroes. Excellent job by the main lead - Huang Xiao Ming and Liu Yi Fei. Great improvement in Liu Yi Fei acting after Chinese Paladin. More detailed in storyline but too much editing (can actually reduce from 52 to 41 episodes). Hope that someone can reflect to the company regarding the production of the uncut series. For your information, the 48 episodes version is the same as the 41 episodes. |

First 2-3 episodes = the most torturous episodes. It was rushed and messy, making it hard to understand what was happening. But the worst part was this Director's attempt at humor. The humor he tried to portray in the first few episdoes made wish I could wash my brain with soap. But good thing he doesn't get much into humor for the rest of the series. Everything past that was pretty good. Some cheesy CG's, and really cheesy dancing (aka. martial art practicing in the flower field for Yu Nu Xin Jing). Not so rushed and pretty enjoyable. I couldn't stop watching it. :) I thought all the actors did a great job too. Xiao Long Nu especially acted really well. Then you pass the "Flowers of Emotion" Canyon arch a bit and it starts to go downhill. It's still alright pretty much up to the point where Yan Guo gets the infant back. Then after that, it just became a whirling mess again. Xiao Long Nu gets mortally wounded and you have NO IDEA how. One second she was hopping around, the next second she's falling all over Yang Guo. My friends and I were just stumped. "How did she get hurt? When did she get hurt? How could she get hurt so terribly, and we have no clue how? Bad Directring... bad directing." Characters pop in all of a sudden fight together and romp together. Sometimes they're there, sometimes they're not, you have no idea where they came from. I've yet to finish the series, though I'm close to the end, but I do agree with many of the reviewers here that much of it is VERY rushed, and unless you have someone who knows the story explaining to you what's going on. You'll probrably get confused like me. I think it's a shame, I think they have a great cast, and Xiao Long Nu's actress is really good, but the directing is weak. I don't have much hope for an engaging ending... but we'll see. |

the visuals are stunning, and the fight scenes are amazing. you got to hand it to the mainland producers, they know how to wow. For those who complain the special effects, the Louis Koo 95 version has nothing on this. All in all it is a rather enjoyable tv serial. I'm docking two stars because: 1) the intro is way too rushed; if you don't know LOCH, you'd be completely lost and 2) some stuff in the novel were "tweaked" a bit (or completely changed, depending on your viewpoint). I hated how Guo Jing was protrayed a little weak (personality wise) compared to other adaptations, and indeed the novel; Huang Rong's character was abominable. To go from Li Ya Peng and Zhou Xun LOCH '03 to those two is very very disappointing. The '82 and '95 adapations had a much better cast for Guo Jing and Huang Rong. Yes, I know this story isn't about them, but they are suppose to be xias, not common folk. My favorite part in the previous good ROCH adaptations (Andy Lau '82 and Louis Koo '95) was the protangonist's stay on Mount Hua with the northern beggar. It is sadly absent in this version, oh well. |

| Please note this 41-episode version is the FULL version. The version released in mainland China has 48 episodes just because they shortened each episode. The content is exactly the same. This is a must watch. No doubt about it. |

As Yuen Wong stated in earlier reviews this version of ROCH is rushed wayyyyy too much...for example the first episode shows Lei Mou Chou killing her ex-lover's family then the next episode Gou Jing is already taking Yang Gou to Chuen Yen for him to study...they skipped alot of stuff. Character interactions are also skipped...you dont even see the characters meet and yet they know each other. Also some characters are just plain missing!(like Gou Jing's dai shifu) or dont have nearly as much screen time as they deserve. Special affects are always welcomed but this version of ROCH the special effects is a joke...its 2006 and they are doing CGI likes it 1990. The SFX where they show characters using their chi is good but everything is laughable. The SFX combained with the real backgrounds is beautiful though...the mountains and lakes are an welcome sight for the eyes compared to the lame SFX. On the acting..I think all actor/actress did a good job...only problem to me is that Liu Yi Fei's Sui Long Nui looks way to young next to Huang Xiao Ming's Yang Gou, who looks old. And another thing the make-up! OMG why did they dye everyone's hair? I mean seriously they try to hard to make it more "hip". I mean Lei Mou Chou with blue highlights? lol But disregarding the rushed storyline I still find this version enjoyable because we all know the story to death. And as for the visuals...albit corny at times its still a new welcome to the more older versions. So all in all this version is still worth the money and they DVD quality is unbeatable..Taiseng actually did something right this time...except for the noted Dolby 1.0 instead of 5.1 which I didnt mind much since I got crappy audio anyways =D |
