Legendary Korean filmmaker Kim Soo Yong has well over a hundred films to his credit including his 1958 debut A Henpecked Husband, Mist (1967), and Manchu (1981). One of Kim's hidden gems, Confessions of an Actress (1967) is a film within a film which takes the audience behind the scenes of a fictional filmmaking process, offering a rare fascinating look into the early days of Chungmuro. A quintessential film heavily lathered in 60s flavor, Confession of an Actress stars the late Nam Jung Im who dominated the screen in the 60s and the late Kim Jin Kyu, one of the most prolific actors of the 50s. It is interesting to note that both leads use their real names in the film which also features a slew of cameo appearances by many notable actors and directors including director Kim Soo Yong himself.
Kim Jin Kyu was once a very successful actor who had it all, but now he struggles daily to make ends meet. His only wish is to reunite with his long lost daughter Jung Im, but when he finally meets his grown up daughter, who happens to be an aspiring actress, Jin Kyu hides his identity out of shame. Instead, he becomes the driving force behind her career. Like father like daughter, Jung Im's natural acting talent shines through and within a matter of months, she becomes an overnight sensation. Watching his own daughter's glorious rise to fame, the proud father realizes that he can no longer be a part of her life.

이 작품 <어느 여배우의 고백>은 109편의 영화를 만든 한국영화계의 거장 김수용 감독의 숨은 걸작으로 60년대 한국영화로선 굉장히 독특한 색깔을 가지고 있는 영화다.
당시 한국영화로서는 특이하게 <어느 여배우의 고백>은 영화촬영 현장을 소재로 삼고 있는 영화인데 좋은 배역을 맡기 위해 신경전을 벌이는 배우들, 제작비를 아끼려고 끊임없이 감독을 간섭하는 제작자, 한 순간에 스타가 되어 선배도 몰라보는 젊은 후배, 제작자의 마음에 들지 않는다고 영화계에서 매장시켜 버리겠다고 대놓고 협박하는 모습 등 겉으로는 화려하지만 속으로 고통과 갈등이 난무하는 60년대 한국 ‘영화판’의 현실을 쇠락한 배우의 고백을 통해 사실적으로 그려내고 있다.
