YesAsia Editorial Description

In the 2000 version of Crimson Sabre, TVB picks one of its top actors Gordon Lam as the lead to collaborate with two relatively new actresses, Charmain Sheh and Au Chi Yan. Such brand new combination creates a pleasant surprise for viewers. Gordon Lam's talent is of course indisputable. He portrays the heroic and determined swordsman Yuen Shing Chi very convincingly. TVB’s nowadays top actress Charmaine Sheh, still a newcomer to the showbiz back then, also gives fascinating performance as a gentle and loveable girl. First-time actress Au Chi Yan plays the cute and lovely Wan Ching Ching and her performance is more than satisfactory as an amateur.

The highlight of this drama is perhaps Kwong Wah, who plays the extraordinary role of “The Golden Snake Man”. He attracts a lot of fans due to his fabulous performance in this drama. Melissa Ng is also a perfect selection for the role of the enchanting Wan Yee. She makes a great couple with Kwong Wah and their love story perhaps forms the most touching and appealing part of the series. TV fans should not be unfamiliar with the story of Crimson Sabre, but TVB's brand new adaptation of the well-known Jin Yong novel will offer a totally different impression for sure.

:) Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Charmaine did and excellent job in this series. She is so beautiful, I wish she and Gordon Lam could be together in the end, they look so cute together. The other female actress that end up together with Gordon Lam is a bit annoying.

edited vcd boycott Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
i'm a serious tvb tv series fanatic, but what they did to most of their vcd releases(deleting almost 50% of the scenes to cram the whole series into 10 tiny vcds) was disappointing. i was expecting the same original uncut version that was aired on tv when it first came out and some. as a result, i am only settling for original and unedited "DVD" version for all tvb tv series. until they do that, i will never buy another incomplete tvb product. enuf said.

Good - but could be better Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
The beginning jumps around a bit. It isn't until about 2/3 of the way through before you begin to find out how the story got to that point. The first 3/4 of the series took up 90% of the story, leaving the last 1/4 of the saga a little "rushed" in the storyline and explanations. The ending is abrupt, and could have been worked out a little better.

Unlike traditional series storylines, the "villan" appears near the last 1/2 of the series. And his ultimate defeat, by our hero - Felix Wong Yat Wah, isn't dependent upon our hero seeking/learning some form of "ultimate kung fu".

The acting is good - the kung fu moves are good, and the story moves along at a good pace. All in all, a worthwile series to watch, though I would have preferred the series to be about 3-4 VCD longer.
