Following the success of 3-Faced last year, Taiwan pop diva Elva Hsiao is to release her 10th album Diamond Candy in October 2009 and launch her world tour at the Taipei Arena on December 31st. The new album features the title track Diamond Candy, a sweet R&B tune composed by Wayne Hector, who has supplied songs for world-famous artists like Westlife and Britney Spears. Elva herself has penned the words for two tracks, namely "Confessions" and "Thrilling Legend", the latter a tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Other lyricists onboard include Daryl Yao, Chen Zhen Chuan, Ge Da Wei, and Golden Horse-winning songwriter Matthew Yen (for Cape No. 7's theme song).

The Diamond Version comes with a set of three 2010 calendar cards.

6 Catchy dance songs + 4 moodful ballads Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
“Diamond Candy” features really catchy synth dance pop melodies and straight away T1’s motion stomper “Beauty Encounter” with catchy euro rhythm and emotive R&B refrain will get you moving to it in no time. Other songs like “Sync Breathing”, “Diamond Candy” and “Shining Love” also have great ‘play on constant repeat’ appeal. Various dance types. “Shining Love” is quite familiar to a Jolin Tsai dance spirit having similar moderate beats and vocals where “Goodbye Bye Bye” is a more fiercer and moody dance track more common to hardcore dance-pop fans. Songs are certainly upbeat and funky and asking to be shared with many a DJ for song mixed versions.

I’ll vouch that the biggies from this album are “Diamond Candy” and “Sync Breathing”, which are two great melodic songs. “Diamond Candy” especially with its fantastic synth pop melody and catchy refrain, with Elva on backing and main vocal harmony. This really is addicting and surely a song for expectation when Elva performs it live later in the year. I also found that by tracking in order the songs “Diamond Candy”, “Shining Love” and “Sync Breathing” produced a really cool selection of Elva’s dance songs here. Its not all dance though, as nice slow and mild piano ballads are featured such as “Cry With You”, “Confession” and “No Hand in Hand”, the latter a quite melancholic soul ballad with electric guitar and blues elements, but otherwise Elva’s album wants to party, dance and shimmer its glimmering sequins at you. The out song finishes off with a Michael Jackson tribute from Elva “Thriller MJ Legend”, which is as much 80s synth pop mechanics as MJ’s Thriller.

Maybe occasional filtered vocal auto tune thingy here (‘darn, darn, darn its that auto-tune’ to Kraftwerks’ Autobahn anyone?), but as modern studio albums are synthetic crafted affairs (reflecting technology) with multi track, timed precision and synthetic vocal ‘effects’ its all-just studio craft to me. Only ‘unplugged’ live songs can be detrimental by using cosmetic tuning techniques. Anyway, auto tune or not, this CD album features good solid vocals from Elva who having a great-varied range with her soulful, deep husky and bright vocals and occasional highs make for good catchy party disco pop. If you love melodic electronic pop such as Jolin T or maybe the latest K-pop girl band darlings (Kara etc), Elva’s “Diamond Candy” is your prefect companion. This addition as a booklet, photo card and logo badge.
