Matsuyama Kenichi starred in Dolphin Blue (2007) in the time between his most famous movies to date: Death Note (2006) and Detroit Metal City (2008). Based on true events, this funny and touching little film tells an inspiring tale of dreams, courage, and miracle between a dolphin and her human friends. In order to slip into his role of a veterinarian, Matsuyama took special training courses in the month before production began. Directed by Maeda Tetsu (Pakodate jin), Dolphin Blue co-stars Nishiyama Maki, Ikeuchi Hiroyuki (Ip Man), Sakai Maki, Riju Go, Yamazaki Tsutomu (Departures), Takahata Mitsuki (who also sings the theme song), and the dolphin star Fuji.

Uemura Kazuya (Matsuyama Kenichi) is a novice veterinarian at the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Chief Fukuhara (Yamazaki Tsutomu) assigns him the tasks of feeding the dolphins and cleaning the pools. Thinking that a vet should be doing more important things than such chores, Kazuya only accepts the job reluctantly, unaware that this is part of Fukuhara's practical training. Even though Kazuya is not on good terms with senior feeder Higa (Ikeuchi Hiroyuki), he gets on well with other co-workers Yuri (Sakai Maki) and Keiichi (Riju Go). One day, the Aquarium's star dolphin Fuji gets seriously sick, and her tail fin begins to rot. There is no way to cure her, and the only way to save her life is to amputate her tail fin, but that takes away her ability to swim. Inspired by schoolgirl Tamaki Michiru (Takahata Mitsuki), Kazuya and company come up with a plan to help Fuji swim freely again.

　　沖縄美之海水族館的明星動物瓶鼻海豚-富士，突然因為不明原因的疾病，導致尾鰭壞死。為了讓富士再度悠遊水中，水族館的飼育員們著手展開打造人工尾鰭的計畫。透過人類與海豚之間的交流，創造出一部充滿歡笑與淚水的感動作品。
　　為了真實呈現這個世界首次的人工尾鰭打造計畫，在世界最大級的沖縄美之海水族館裡，與海豚富士展開了長達一個月的拍攝作業。這個感動全世界的真實故事，由主演＜死亡筆記本＞＜重金搖滾雙面人＞紅遍全亞洲的知名男星－松山健一主演。為了完美詮釋戲中的新手獸醫師，拍攝前接受了詳細的獸醫知識課程，從動物體溫的測量方法、血液採集方法到精密醫療儀器的使用方法等等。而松山健一也在拍攝期間與海豚們培養出了深厚的感情。

【劇情簡介】
　　新人獸醫師植村一也（松山健一 飾）到了沖繩美之海水族館任職，福原館長（山崎努飾）將他分派到了海獸科。一也每天忙著處理海豚飼料、打掃水池等飼養員的雜事，對於完全無法發揮獸醫專長，一也雖然不滿卻也只能默默接受。不過其實福原館長是希望藉此基層的磨練，讓一也親近海豚，進而好好地瞭解海豚，培養他成為一個能勝任醫療實務的獸醫。
　　雖然前輩飼養員比嘉（池內博之飾）經常為了小事和一也起爭執，但飼養員百合（坂井真紀 飾）和科長（利重剛飾）則非常親切和善，教了一也許多有關海豚的知識。在一也低潮的時候，身在遠方的戀人陽子（西山茉希飾）會透過電話來鼓勵他。然而，日子一天天第地在忙碌中過去，一也不禁感到理想和現實之間的距離越來越大。
　　某天，水族館裡的海豚富士突然生了怪病，她的尾鰭開始壞死。一也和大家一起全力搶救，病情卻依然沒有氣色，為了阻止壞死擴展到全身，不得不為其「截肢」。失去尾鰭後的富士無法再悠遊於水中，只能默默地浮在水池的一角。
　　一直逃課來水族館的少女玉城滿（高畑充希 飾）告訴一也，不能游泳的富士不是海豚。在她的觸動下，一也覺得治療不能僅僅停留在保命的程度上。他得知美國的輪胎製造商曾經用橡膠為海龜製造假肢，於是便和館長商議，請普利斯通公司來為富士製造人工尾鰭。
　　為了讓富士能再度自由遨遊、再度做出漂亮的騰躍，人們團結在一起展開了奮鬥…
