YesAsia Editorial Description

East meets West, and ancient myth meets modernity in this creature feature from Korean director Shim Hyung Rae. A TV news reporter (Jason Behr, The Grudge), an antiques dealer (Robert Forster, Firewall), and a beautiful young woman (Amanda Brooks) all play a role in an old Korean legend coming to life. A giant snake is slithering its way through the streets of Los Angeles, and the trio must keep it from reuniting with an ancient spirit that will turn it into an evil, even more destructive dragon. Dragon Wars is a throwback to classic monster movies, but this time around, there are much better special effects than audiences saw in those films from both Japan and the U.S. Though the film is from South Korea, director Shim has recruited faces that will be familiar to American audiences, from Roswell favorite Behr to Forster, who turned in a career-reviving performance in Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown. But it's The Office's Craig Robinson who's the most fun here as a womanizing photographer who teams up with Behr's Ethan. Dragon Wars is more of a guilty pleasure than fellow Korean import The Host, but it features an impressive amount of action and nods to monster movie favorites such as King and Kong and Godzilla.

This movie... Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
... sucked so badly! I had low expectations before watching the movie, but it was even worse than I could have imagined. The visual effects are OK, but the rest of the movie is an utter joke. This is in the top 3 worst movies I've watched this year.

Fun Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
shim sets out to create a humorous monster movie and by and large, succeeds despite hammy performances and a convulated script.

Brilliant Comic Gem! Customer Review Rated Bad 0 - 0 out of 10
My friends and I rented this from our local video store hoping for a humorous, fun movie at the very least, and boy oh boy were we satisfied! Shim Hyung Rae's comic talents shine through in this laugh-a-minute riot fest that.... huh? This is supposed to be a serious movie? You've got to be kidding me!

In all seriousness, this movie is a complete joke. Full of nothing but unintentional hilarity, it's a wonder why anyone would greenlight such a disastrous project. From an underdeveloped, and frankly stupid, story, boring characters, horrid dialogue, and perhaps the worst editing in recent memory, D-War is a terrible, terrible film. Shim's dedication may be admirable, but he shows nothing but complete incompetence as a movie director. Seven years in the making? Something tells me he (and the money he miraculously procured) could have been put to much better use elsewhere.
