Cass truly is a Lovely Legend Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
While I have owned several Cass Phang CDs over the years, this collection came as a revelation to me. Of course, Cass was a brilliant singer, arguably the best female Canto-pop ballad singer of the 1990s. What I hadn't realized was what a great debt she owed to Sally Yeh. That fact becomes apparent when listening to the earliest songs on this excellent 2-CD compilation. It certainly sounds like Cass was being cast as 'the new Sally' and her singing on those early numbers is remarkably similar to Sally's style.

This collection also makes clear how Cass developed her own distinctive voice. Most singers become bolder to find their own style. Cass, however, went in the opposite direction. She became a great artist by drawing back, by making her voice a pure instrument of fragile vulnerability. It is that vulnerability that we remember about her singing, that draws us into her best songs, and to which all of us can relate.

This "EMI Lovely Legend" compilation contains all of Cass Phang's big hits, all the songs that we can never forget. For both its scope and its bargain price, I recommend this package very highly. This is essential music for all lovers of Canto-pop.
