Inspired Debut Album

I first heard of Hirakawachi 1-chome on PopJapanTV on the International Channel here in the states, and they took me by surprise. They're not your average pop stars in Japan, they're actually not pop at all. I was fascinated that the music they write together is folk and that they're also brothers. I thought it was really cool that these guys, who are only in 8th and 10th grade, were inspired by their father's 70's folk albums. I really liked the singles they showed on the show so I decided to look them up on the internet, and after a LOT of searching (turns out I was spelling 1-chome wrong..it's a play on words because it's actually "ichoume" and "ichi" is one in Japanese, thus "1-chome") I found their album on YesAsia. I was really curious, so I got it. I just received the album today and can say that I am NOT disappointed. The first few tracks are intense and reminded me of some Latin guitar songs, but the more soothing songs later on in the album are what really made me enjoy this album. It's sad that talent like this isn't recognized here in the US. In fact, I've only seen 1 English fan site dedicated to them, but I'm thankful for PopJapanTV for introducing me and for YesAsia for supplying the goods. Highly recommended! |
