In forty plus years of filmmaking, Shaw Brothers auteur Li Han Hsiang left an indelible stamp on Hong Kong cinema with his elegant period pieces and artistic erotica. He forged a new aesthetic with his lush tales of raw emotions and lustful romance, like Sensual Pleasures (1978), Moods of Love (1977), and 1973's Facets of Love, also known as Northern Ladies of China. One of Li's most representative erotic romances, Facets of Love combines the director's genre expertise for an erotic period tale of royal seduction and deception. The film stars four of Shaw Brothers' top names of the time, martial arts stars Ngok Wah and Wong Yue and starlets Hu Chin (Dream of the Red Chamber) and Lily Ho (Princess Iron Fan). Also of interest to contemporary audiences would be the appearance of Jackie Chan in a small uncredited role.

In Facets Of Love, the undisputed king of epic dramas, director Li Han-hsiang, gets some of Shaw's sexiest ladies to strip for camera. It's three sexy vignettes centering around a Ming Dynasty brothel that steams with secret erotic myths, trysts and twists of pleasurable indulgence.
