hyde to me has to be my favorite singer right now, and has been for several years now. I started to listen to him back in 2002 and since then L'Arc~en~Ciel has been my most favorite band to date. Most of this is because of hyde's vocals coupled with Ken's guitar. To me that, with the rest of the band, makes for one awesome listening experience that can not be compared or competed with. So when hyde made his solo debut I thought it would be great. His first CD was good as you were able to hear the soft style of his voice. After that he was able to come up with another great CD of his rough style. I think both of those were a good touch for him and I am glad to listen to both. Unfortunately this CD, to me, does not have the same touch as the others did. Ever since their breakup in 2000 L'Arc~en~Ciel, to me, has lost the wonderful touch they had with the music that made them so famous during the mid to late 90's. I am not sure how to explain it, but its like the heart they put into the music was replaced with modernity in music. With his 3rd solo CD out it appears that he is leaning more and more towards a rough style that is not so much about his voice anymore, nor the melody within the music, but more about the sound of the guitar and how loud it can get. I dont mean the sounds of the guitar when comparing to Ken either, but more of a sound where it doesnt flow altogether well with anything else. Although that may work for his solo albums, and I would have to agree it does to some small extent, I can only hope that he does not retain this when he goes back to writing for the bigger band. |
