Fangs Of The Cobra (VCD) (Hong Kong Version) VCD

One of the Shaw Brothers' more prolific directors, Sun Chung made quite a few action films throughout the 70s and 80s including City War with Chow Yun Fat and The Proud Youth with Jimmy Wang. His 1977 thriller Fangs of the Cobra, a.k.a. Cobra Girl, shakes things up with a serpentine twist. Hsiao Yao stars as a village girl, Fen, who by chance adopts a cobra. The unlikely pet, which she names Xi Xi, becomes her protector and even helps her meet Zhuang Shide (Zong Hua), who just returned from overseas. The two end up getting married, and Shide takes over the family business, much to the fury of Hu Lin (Wai Wang) who had been managing the plantation all along. The greedy and resentful Hu is determined to regain what isn't his, and even sets a rabid rodent on Shide and Fen's newborn baby. Xi Xi slithers in for a venomous battle...

Incredibly, the title serpent isn't a harbinger of horror, but actually the film's hero! It all revolves around the fight for control of a wealthy man's estate.
