What a BEAUTIFUL VOICE! *o*
|
The only song I had ever heard by Faye Wong was "Eyes On Me" up until now. The song is one of my favorite FFVIII melodies, but I never really thought Faye's voice was all that good in that song. Yet...when I listened to a few of her albums, I was shocked O.O !! She has a gorgeous voice and sings in one of my favorite styles - an opera-like style but in an enchanting/haunting way unlike the typical opera you often hear that sounds like screaming. >_< It's soft, well-controlled, beautiful, and emotional. Some gifted Chinese singers have perfected ballad-type songs to where I think their ballads are the most beautiful to ever exist. Special, rare, and pure as if untouched by mortals. It's just angelic. I could listen to ballads by Faye Wong, Fish Leong, and Vincy Chan alllllllllll day. My only complaint is that I wish Faye Wong would've stepped a little outside the box and tried singing with her original tone more like featured in "Eyes On Me" which had only a bit of falsetto and showed her natural voice more without all the echo effects added along with it. While her soft falsetto is what she perfers to sing in...it can get boring to some and will seem like it just drags on forever because her songs are often pretty long. Faye Wong's music is a nice escape from the "modern music" that society showcases today. It's peaceful and unlike any other professional singers' style. Sometimes, it's so beautiful, it can bring the hardest of people to feel somewhat emotional. I always said that music should be able to speak to your heart and soul. I wish I had looked more into Faye Wong many years ago when I first heard of her. |

I haven't bought this "Faye Wong Best Boxset 5 in 1", but I would like to buy it as a Christmas present. That's why I would like YesAsia send it again ! Yet, I know all those albums and I love all of them ! Fable (2000) contains the most beautiful songs I've never heard before (and composed by Faye herself) ! And others are wondeful too... Wang Fei (1997) is really sweet, and my favorite songs are Bored (3), Another Paradise (5) and Into The Fire (9). Sing & Play (1998) is very very good ! Emotional Life (1), Face (2), Red Bean (9)... *o* no comments... Only Love Strangers (1999), with the first rock songs Up To The Brambles (1), Hypnotize (3), Century of Loneliness (5) and some else are very impressive ! And to finish, Faye Wong (2001), as others before, superb ! Light of Wings (1), Wandering Red Shoes (7), Idiot (8),... every thing is perfect ! And the EP with this album contains a great song : Colour Blind !! |

I can honestly say I like Faye Wong, but I don't understand this collection. Her main thing seems to be ballads, or just slow songs in general. I dunno, maybe it's her schtick. It's frustrating to listen to when she has some pretty awesome tracks on the cd and then suddenly, slows down and follows the usual pattern of guitar and vocal. It's not bad; it's just a tad bit boring. The first cd is good; it's basically the same pattern. The second, an improvement on the first. Then, we have the 3rd, which actually switches musical styles for a second, than goes back to the usual. This is what I was talking about. The first track, the 3rd and 5th are wonderful songs, and I wish the album had followed this all the way through. Fable is one of the more faithful cds, sure it has 3 slow songs, but it has 7 that are actually up to par with each other. As for the last, it follows the same pattern as all the others. I don't know; is this popular in China, or is this just how Faye Wong operates? It confuses me. |

| I would recommend this boxset to anyone who is starting a Faye Wong collection, the CDs are genuine and are all packaged neatly, the design of the box may look cheap but its not! Nice material and can keep CDs for many, many years without any damage. I've just recieved my copy today and I'm so happy! |

Faye Wong has always been an artist that reigned in her own class. Regardless of what the press writes about her, one fact remains .... well, as a fact, the girl can sing. Although never vocally empowering as Divas such as Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston, she definitely doesn't have a paper thin voice. Faye's voice is crystal clear and projected with such poise and the pitch is controlled with perfection. Although her artistic growth is ever evolving as displayed through the five albums she has released during the period, Faye Wong was never an artist that succumbed to releasing albums merely to blend in with commercial radio. Her first release "Faye Wong '97" was basically as radio friendly as the collection goes, consisting mainly of ballads, it contained it's fare share of hits including "I Don't Want To Be Like This Either", "Mortal World", "You're Happy So I"m Happy" & "Bored". 1998's release "Scenic Tour" was one of the most successful albums in the series and the inclusion of the bonus 3 cantonese EP was definitely an added incentive to purchase this collection as it was only available with the original pressings of the album. It contained the hits "Red Bean / Repayment" , "Sex Commandment / Love Commandment", "Give Up Half Way / Excuse Myself" and "Emotional Life". 1999's "Only Love Stranger" was always going to be a highly anticipated release particularly after the success of the previous release. Despite falling short of expectations, Faye took another sharp turn and headed for a more rockier and edgier direction as displayed from "The Last Blossom", "A Century Of Loneliness / Watching Over The Wheatfield" and the alternative sounding "Hypnotize". The ballads still remain in the form of "Butterfly / Postman" and "The Moon At The Time" and it also includes the song from the Pepsi commercial "Spectacular". 2000's "Fable" is arguably the most complete body of work from Faye. The first five tracks fit together nicely and tells of a story, and it also helps that they all became hits particularly with "Chanel" and "New Tenant". The haunting ballad "Love Letter To Myself / Book of Forgiving and Forgetting" appears twice as does "Firefly / Goodbye Firefly" which continues with the rockier sound developed from the last album. It would have been a nice addition if the bonus VCD that came with the original pressing of this album was contained in the collection as well. Last but not least, "Faye Wong '01" is probably the album that I listen to the least from this collection. I guessed I anticipated a little bit too much from the way that Faye always managed to topple her previous effort with every new release and I can't help but "Fable" raised the bar a little bit too high. Despite the wealth of materials contained within this release, I couldn't help but feel that there was no particular flow or theme within this release as there was a little bit of everything thrown into the mix. However, this album did have it's few moments of highlights including what I believe would be one of Faye's finest ballads "Passing Years". This release also features the maddening "Wing Of Light" and "Idiot". On the more ballady side of things, there's "Vertigo" and "Colour Blind". On the whole, this is a very nice little collection to have. Why purchase "Most Fayevourite" when you can own the whole collection all at once and be able to experience Faye's artistic growth over the years. |
