Michael Wong stars in First Option, an unrelated sequel to his hit action-drama The Final Option. The buffed Wong is Mike Wong, a tough SDU captain whose personal life suffers thanks to his stalwart dedication to duty. Mike is put in charge of an SDU unit assigned to cooperate with a Customs Task Force led by pretty cop Minnie (Gigi Leung). Their goal: to take down the "Ice Queen", a mysterious drug dealer who leads a band of nefarious smugglers and criminals. The two groups clash at first, but circumstances arise which require cooperation, or else the criminals will go free, and justice will not be done.
Director Gordon Chan brings his penchant for authentic, gripping gunplay action and meticulous procedural detail to First Option. Like The Final Option, First Option takes great care to humanize Hong Kong's police force, creating characters who cry and bleed between each volley of bullets. A favorite of critics, First Option earned Gordon Chan a Best Director Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society. Michael Wong was nominated for a Best Actor Hong Kong Film Award for his rock-solid performance as Mike Wong.

Awesome
| I saw this years ago and after watching it again, I am still blown away by how good it is. If you like anything related to counterterrorism than this is your movie! Features great battles and very accurate information and lingo. Good story and characters. Michael Wong does a good job. Half the movie is in English so even people who don't understand Chinese will enjoy it too. The only problem is Gigi is rather annoying. DVD picture quality is okay (no remastering) and there's no surround sound. The movie still rocks though. |
