Before he became known for gritty crime films like Crime Story and Organized Crime & Triad Bureau, Hong Kong director Kirk Wong experimented with new cinematic forms during the Hong Kong New Wave period with early works like Flash Future Kung Fu. This 1983 futuristic action thriller stars Johnny Wong Lung Wai as an underground fighter who is killed by a dangerous group of neo-nazis. However, he is brought back to life by his master (Eddy Ko) so they can work together to get revenge. Influenced by 80s Hollywood sci-fi films like Blade Runner, Flash Future Kung Fu is a visually astonishing action classic that was nominated for multiple Hong Kong Film Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
