YesAsia Editorial Description

Adapted from a novel by Kaneshiro Kazuki, Fly, Daddy, Fly puts together quite a unique pair of leads. It took Lee Moon Shik (Mapado) over a decade to get top billing, while Lee Jun Ki reached instant stardom with his role in the super hit King and The Clown. As the title suggests, Fly, Daddy, Fly is, first and foremost, Lee Moon Shik's film. His performance, an endearing mix of humanism and laughter, won him unanimous praise from critics. Now it's your chance to see if this Daddy can really fly.

For Ga Pil (Lee Moon Shik), being a good father means more than simply working hard. His daughter keeps getting abused by other students, but as a simple thirty-something salaryman, there seems to be little he can do. His solution? Facing them in the boxing ring, the one place where they can't call their rich fathers to save them. To get there, Ga Pil needs someone to teach him all the tricks of the trade, which is where fighting expert Seung Seok (Lee Jun Ki) comes in. Mired in teenage angst, Seung Seok not only gains a friend, but also a surrogate father.

Dee-lightful! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
What a great movie this is! Although I love Lee Jun Ki to death because he has arguably the most beautiful face in Korea, I've had a problem with his acting chops from time to time. In "The King And The Clown" he
was really great, but in "Time Of Dog and Wolf"... not so much. Probably it is the fault of the director more than anything else. In this movie he is terrific, playing the sensitive, introspective teen who befriends an unlikely hero--a middle aged salaryman with a serious score to settle. I was really pleasantly surprised at how good this movie was and how much humanity it portrayed. See it!

MUST SEE! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
OMG!! this movie is so good!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!! This movie was very very good. During this movie i cried a a few times, i stared and took in every word Lee Junki said, and i held my breath on the day the dad fought against Tae-wook...I just love this movie soo much. Even my dad started to watch it and said, "I could tell this movie was very proffesionally directed." and FYI my dad hates korean movies. The acting was soo incredible and Lee Junki was SOO HOOTT...I love everything about this movie..It is soo good...get it even if you dont like fighting or anything.it's not just fighting...it's soo much more...get this or you'll regret it.

ok...not excellent!! Customer Review Rated Bad 6 - 6 out of 10
ok, I give it a 6 because of Lee JunKi. He's look absolutely hot in the movie, very mature for a high school guy...but oh well, it really can't make the movie a 9-10.

The storyline is interesting, casts' acting are great (no doubt) but i think the way it filmed somewhat boring. I feel like there so many dragging, esp in the beginning, make the story feel really long. It leaves no special impression, making me feel like it's just another story with nothing special (although, again I said, the plot is interesting). The movie would be so much sucessful if the directing made it go a little faster.
There some funny scene = another good point

Who's the daddy? Moon-sik! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This film is certainly worth all the 5 star credits its been getting and is a very rewarding movie. Lee Moon-sik is excellent in the role as the frustrated father who's daughter is subjected to violence from a bad egg of a rich school boxing champion and the direction and production of this film is high. I thought the words were poignant when Jun-ki's character said that "violence is neither justice or evil, but merely violence", concerning Moon-sik's fazed reaction to some of his training and of his pursuit to justify his daughter. The film's style surprised me, somewhat, as I expected that the pitch of the movie would have begun with a more street cred black-and-white noise filtered affair for the opener (like "The Guy" or "Romance of their Own") or comedy fisty cuffs of a "Manner Zero", but with a more honest sympathetic approach to the bullying subject matter, the first third of the film is a more subdued and serious tone.

Lee Jun-ki eventually appears to save the day (huzzah!) and agrees to train the father for a boxing contest with the bully. Fear not all your young dudes, Jun-ki portrays his super cool character to good aplomb, so rich rewards for fans here. Its from then that the film turns more towards comedy drama, which elevates it from the more sombre beginning, right up until the poignant and sober logical end. The ending is not overdone, either, refusing to submit to a ridiculous possible gung ho scenario where the father could have triumphed over the bully easily, that would have certainly fell flat if that had been the case.

"Fly Daddy" is not altogether an high energy fight flick or a film that would only appeal to boxing aficionados, the story is solid, the delivery excellent and overall a rewarding and entertaining movie. Its uplifting and should appeal to a wider audience. Check out Moon-sik's bus race and his first boxing experience with Jun-ki "to go beyond his fear"...priceless!

Just one last thing about region codes. Some guys having trouble with this, but there generally is no trouble viewing DVDs on computer with software or region free players. If you really want this DVD as a collectible, get this one now then wait for a region ALL version when it comes out. But, you can watch this on a computer with the correct software.
