 Director's & Lead Actor's Biography

導演:岳楓
Director: Yue Feng

As a realist story of the grassroots in town contrasting urban comedies that MP&GI excels in, For Better For Worse demonstrates the high level of esteem and respect that MP&GI directors and playwrights enjoy. Director and screenwriter Yue Feng proves his mastery of the family theme through his vivid and sensitive portrait of the unemployed husband (Zhang Yang) and his souring relationship with his wife and children. Helen Li Mei sets aside her previous roles of an independent working lady to successfully transform into a wife and mother who would do anything she can for the family. Long before her dominance in the Cantonese cinema, teenager Chan Pao-chu impresses her fans not only with her role as a loving daughter but also her fluent Mandarin.

Well-told family drama Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Single father with a son marries widow with a daughter. The father's shrewish and interfering sister opposes the marriage because marrying a widow supposedly brings bad luck. Their blended family is happy until the father loses his job, then the struggles begin.

Li Mei stands out as the strong woman struggling to save her family in this beautifully executed soap opera. Also terrific are the two child actors. All of the central characters are believable and the engrossing story unfolds at a natural, unforced pace.

I have to downgrade this DVD a little because there are some minor problems with the soundtrack and several of the opening scenes have a washed-out look. Don't be deterred by these problems; just sit back, get out your hankie, and watch Li Mei work magic.

Very highly recommended for a general audience.

Very sentimental movie Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I got this movie because 1)it has Chan Bo Chu in it 2)I've never seen this one 3) supposedly a good storyline. I found this story very rewarding to watch. It is about family, family values, family relationships, family sacrifice, family love...It is sorta sad but also happy. All the actors acted very well. Chan did an very good job playing the daughter. I cannot tell if it is her speaking the language or not. But overall the story was nice and sweet.

Great acting, great storyline Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie illustrates family life, their love, their hardship, their trust. After watching this movie, you appreciate what the true definition of family is. Li Mei is exceptional in her role as the dutiful wife and mother to her children. The little boy is very good. Chan Bo Chu, she is my idol and she did a great job in this Mandarin speaking film. I did not know she spoke Mandarin.

A different Li Mei Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
In this movie, Li Mei sheds her usual seductive ways and gives us a great performance of a dutiful housewifely and motherly role. She is indeed a true talent and it is a joy to re-watch her movies again. For all those young movie fans who've never heard of her, give yourself a chance. You'll discover that you will like her charismatic presence.
