Director Martin Scorsese sets his epic drama Gangs of New Yourk in 1860 in Lower Manhattan. With the Civil War underway, the country was torn apart and on the brink of chaos. It was a time of ruthlessness, intolerance and fear but also a time of extraordinary bravery Amsterdam (Leonardo Dicaprio), a young Irish-American immigrant, returned to the Five Points after 15 years. There he sought revenge against "Bill the Butcher" (Daniel Day-Lewis), the powerful anti-immigrant gang leader who killed Amsterdam's father. However his romance with Jenny (Cameron Diaz), her closely linked past with Bill, intensified the relatship between the three. Amsterdam's fight for family honor and a place for his people made him a hero of future generations.
