昭和62年9月、劇団新国劇は解散しました。その新国劇の精神を受け継ぎ、新国劇の中堅メンバー18人によって結成されたのが劇団若獅子です。昭和63年9月に旗揚げ公演を行い、以来、年間1〜3本の割合で新作および新国劇時代の名作の上演を続けています。真に格調ある大衆演劇の継承・保存・定着を目指しながら、独自の企画で現代劇にも取り組んでおり、美しくも壮絶な殺陣も見所となっています。
