Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (not to be confused with Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence) is a reproduced version of the original film with new 3D visual effects, newly recorded dubbing, and a renewed soundtrack in 6.1 Channel Surround.

First released in 1995, Ghost in the Shell has long become one of the most representative works in Japanese animation. One of the first anime films to cross over to the mainstream in the West, Ghost in the Shell captivated audiences worldwide with its stunning animation, complex storyline, and existential themes, and went on to launch a franchise with sequels and TV anime series. Based on Shiro Masamune's manga, the visionary sci-fi actioner is set in a cyber-infused world of the future where Major Kusanagi Motoko and her partner Batou work for Section 9, an elite crime-fighting unit specializing in technology-related crimes. Kusanagi is investigating a mysterious hacker known only as the Puppet Master. The case leads them to an escaped cyborg without any human brain cells, and yet seems to have a "ghost" within.

    A classic anime refreshed and reborn Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
    "Ghost in the Shell 2.0" is not a sequel to the original 'Ghost in the Shell' film. It is, instead, the original film reborn, better than ever before! The movie has been remastered and all the original images have been reproduced with the current state-of-the-art digital film and animation technologies. This version features all-new voice recordings by the original cast and an entirely new (and very cool) new musical score by Kenji Kawai. Yes, this is the same film you've seen before, but it is entirely brand new. And this version absolutely pops off the screen, truly bringing the story to life in a way that the original never could.

    "Ghost in the Shell" tells a complex tale, set in a future Hong Kong, at a time when the line between humans, androids, and cyberspace have become so blurred as to be almost nonexistent. This is a world in which it has become the meaning of 'life' has become hard to define. And threatening this thoroughly wired-up world is a malevolent presence called the Puppet-Master. It's up to cyberwarrior android Major Kusanagi Motoko and her intrepid team to save what remains of the 'ghost in the shell', the human spirit.

    At turns dazzling, baffling, gorgeous, and violent, director Oshii Mamoru's animated classic is not to be missed. And this 2.0 version of the film definitely is the one to own.
