Be afraid...be very afraid
Be very afraid of buying this DVD. Not because of the film but because you would have wasted your time and money. Do not get fooled (like me) by an interesting trailer. Those of us that have actually seen this film regret it. This is not a low budget film. This is a NO BUDGET film. The original premise of the story starts off kind of interesting however, there are only a handful of characters and a handful of extras in the ENTIRE MOVIE. They must be related to the director and/or producer, and working for free just so they can say "I starred in a movie". From the onset, girl tries to find missing girlfriend. Missing girlfriend's boyfriend joins search. Mysterious e-mail from missing girl appears. Girl and boy then wander for hours and...find the place where lost girl was! Spooky building yields some dark secrets. The rest gets predictable and doesn't get any better. Copied elements from "Ringu", "Phone" and other scary films are evident throughout. Not just disappointing but a tragic waste of resources and time to make something so bad. |

Not what I expected...
To say it plainly, this movie is terrible. I had orginally seen the trailer for it on the Battle Royale II DVD and I was quickly drawn to its strange and somewhat frightening visuals that were very much RING reminiscent. The quality of the camera work as well as the visual quality of the movie itself is somewhat lacking. There are times, (especially at the beginning) where the camera becomes either very shaky or static for extended periods of time. The angles that the director and cinematographer utilizes are also at times quite odd and diminishes much of the overall suspense of many of the scenes withing the movie. The visual quality of the movie is not professionally done and is actually only a step up from the Blair Witch Project. The sound is mediocre at best and the entirety of the movie itself is littered with strange noises that work to confuse the viewer or generic "scary movie" tracks that are actually to my opinion, very much abused and drawn out. The storyline has potential as well as room for improvement, but sadly, the movie's natural obscure nature limits the extent in which the movie could be further developed. This limitation unfortunately makes what could have been an interesting concept into pure hokey. Capping out at a mere 74 minutes long, many viewers might actually find themselves throughly bored or disgusted by the 45 minute mark. The movie is further debilitated by the incredibly terrible acting. I can whole heartedly say this applies to every single character in this movie... which... to my amusement, numbers a whopping four. The acting is so unimaginably bad, that it destroys any sort of sense of fright or suspense that this movie so (unsuccessfully) tries to incorporate frequently within its scenes. Using the very stereotypical "pale girl in white with long hair that covers her face", this movie is amazingly not scary at all. I did find myself drawn in a few times by the suspense that the movie creates near the second half of the film; not through the quality of the ambience or the climax, but through the terrible decisions that our would be heroes make within the film. The "scariest" part in this entire film was actually quite amusing and gave my friends and I a good chuckle while we were viewing it. The main character was the only highlight of the entire movie. While her acting leaves much to be desired, she is very cute and she possesses a very likeable personality. I actually enjoyed the "Making of..." portion of the film rather than the actual movie itself. In any case, I give "Ghost System" a 4 out of 10 and strongly advise those who would purchase this film for the horror aspect to reconsider. For those who find strange things funny and don't have any particular qualms about wasting a couple dollars, be my guest. The ending's a twist! |
