Slowly but steadily, Japanese rock band Dir en grey is marking their presence on the charts. Last year they not only pleased their fans with a huge selection of some of their best hits on two separate compilations but also climbed to Oricon's no. 7 spot through their sixth full-length album Marrow Of A Bone. Finally they underlined this success by landing their biggest single hit so far with Dozing Green. Now they are back with their first 2008 single, melancholic number Glass Skin written by band vocalist Kyo. On this appetizer single preceding their forthcoming album Uroboros, Dir en Grey also offers their fans an updated version of the song undecided plus Agitated Screams of Maggots -Unplugged-.

Very Good to Excellent!
| This is my first Dir en grey CD! The picture design of the figure head and the word 'melancholic' in the product description enticed me to get this CD. It was a good decision because I like it a lot. The first song, Glass Skin is a rock ballad with excellent melody and beats. I like the lyrics which has depth although it contains one phrase that really doesn't make sense at all. The lead singer has a very attractive voice, a cross between Hyde and Gackt. He sings with a lot of feelings and emotions. There is a slight trace of X-Japan when he hits his high notes with emotions. My other favorite track is Track 2, undecided. The last track is a 4 stars because there is too much screaming at the end of the track. I don't like Track 3 because it has a lot of screaming which is their famous trademark. So, check out this CD before you get it. Make sure you get the right tracks to listen to before you get it. I hope I don't get clobbered by the traditional Dir en grey fans by saying that I like their rock ballads instead of their heavy metal and really expressive type of vocals and lyrics! :) |
