Creative action sequences from veteran action director Yuen Cheung Yan highlight Heroes of Sung, a rousing action-adventure starring female martial arts dynamo Si Si (The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires)! Two martial arts masters are charged by the dying Sung Prince to deliver two royal seals to his younger brother as proof of his right to the throne. But evil Fengyan rebels are in pursuit, so the two masters hand the seals to three students to deliver for them. The students are Tian Long (Cheung Pui Shan), Tian Hu (Shaw Brothers favorite Law Lit), and Hong Erh (Si Si), who must work together to deliver the seals for the future of the Sung Dynasty! Myraid weapons are brandished as the three engage in entertaining bouts of martial arts action, courtesy of Yuen Cheung Yan, who directed the action for the American blockbuster Charlie's Angels!

　　Heroes of Sung stars one of the original kung-fu ladies of the silver screen Shilh Szu playing swordswoman Meng Hung who must work with Fan Tien-fu, played by perennial Shaws bad guy Lo Lieh (although he's good in this) to find then protect the royal seals of the Sung Dynasty. If they should fail, the dynasty will fall. Shih's magnificent performance earned her the female hero role in the Shaws-Hammer Studio hit "Dracula" and the 7 Golden Vampires.

This movie put me to sleep Customer Review Rated Bad 4 - 4 out of 10
How bad is "Heroes of Sung"? Let me count the ways. First, none of the characters are more than cardboard cutouts. Second, the story plods at a glacial pace. Third, the fight scenes are nothing special and usually are shot from long range to show a wide tableau of action. This robs the fights of any visceral impact. Particularly silly is the supposedly invincible tactic of having Lo Lieh and Chang Pei-Shan lock hands to fight. Fourth, Cheng Pei-Shan is thoroughly unconvincing as an action hero. Only Shih Szu provides any reason to watch this dull-as-dishwater production. Your humble servant cannot recommend "Heroes of Sung".

Shih Szu is the real hero Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Not your usual revenge-driven wuxia film as the three stars (Shih Szu, Lo Lieh, and Chang Pei-Shan) receive and try to deliver two royal seals to their rightful owners without being killed in the process. There's lots of really good action sequences along with (unfortunately) some cheesy wire work and excessive trampoline usage. Lo Lieh plays his typical rouge-ish character and Chang Pei-Shan is the honest, moral opposite to Lo Lieh. It's nice to see Chang play a good guy for a change. But get it straight: Shih Szu is the star. She is deadly and utterly convincing with her usage of the twin swords and just dominates her action scenes. A great performance.

 The DVD/VCD From Hong Kong Is Uncut Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
I bought the DVD from Hong Kong and both scenes that were cut on the Singapore VCD are intact in the HK version. So you can see the scene where Lo Lieh seduces a nude Jessie Li and also the spectacular final scene in which charismatic actor Chen Chun playing the villain is hacked into two. This scene alone is worth the price of the DVD.

Heroes of Sung Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
There are two cuts in this show: one is the bed scene where actoress Jessie Li seduced Lo Lieh; the other is the last fighting scene where the villian was killed. However, these does not affect the whole plot. It would be better if all future Shaw Classics could be released in the complete version so as not to irritate the viewers' pleasure.
