Not a shocker for Samura fans...
Not a shocker for Samura fans...

If you are a reader of Blade of the Immortal, the stuff in here is not going to really take you by surprise. It's just the next step up from the series (which depicts graphic violence but not nudity). This title has both, all of it directed at and towards women. It's a little harder to stomach, as a female reader, but these are pictures as opposed to characters. The women in Hitodenashi no Koi don't benefit from characterization, so they realy are just dropped into these situations without an explanation. While not "tame" per se, there is a definite range of violence portrayed and some of it is really intense. Not for the faint of heart, but any hardcore Samura fan is going to understand where this kind of artwork comes from if they've read Blade of the Immortal. Some it kind of makes me grimace, but I knew exactly what to expect and I wanted to show my support for this amazing artist. Most Blade fans should be able to handle the contents of this book on a superficial level, but when you read into all the violence directed towards women, it might start to disturb you a lot more. |

Wonderful edition
|
This deluxe edition collects Samura's atrocity prints from 1998-2004. It looks gorgeous: it comes in a glossy slip cover, the quality of the reprints is really excellent, and the book has an oversized, glossy fold-out in the middle. The prints almost all focus on the destruction of the female body and as such depict the most horrific acts of sexual violence imaginable. Any samples you may have come across online do not come close to representing the extreme nature of the art. Many of the atrocities are placed in a historical setting, in Japan, the wild west, Nazi Germany, etc. In any case, a wonderful edition, well worth its price. |

Nasty.
Nasty.
| The misogynist artwork is very realistic, VERY cruel in its subject matter. I'm an admirer of Samura for his storytelling and visual skills, but am horrified by this book of individual compositions. The cover suggests nothing of the nauseating nightmares within. It's a great work, even if I feel sick in my stomach. |
