Heartthrob Tony Yang's first film after the breakout success of Formula 17, Holiday Dreaming follows the Taiwan youth film tradition of idol leads, bright capers, and moody musings under the summer sun. Tony Yang stars as young conscript Ah Zhou who's nearing the end of his mandatory military service. His humdrum days take an unexpected turn after a strange dream in which he sees his elementary school classmate die. Soon he gets sent off base with fellow soldier Xiao Gui under orders to bring back soldier Kuen He who went AWOL with gun in tow. Ah Zhou and Xiao Gui head to the seaside town of Hualian where they indulge in vacation pastimes until Kuen He shows up with his gun. The debut film from director Xu Fu Jun, Holiday Dreaming co-stars popular artists Janine Chang (The Hospital) and Alien (Xiao Gui).

即將退伍的老兵阿洲，面對未來一片茫然。某夜，他夢見多年不見的小學同學--陳欣欣，死狀淒慘。多年來，阿洲經常想起這位唯一對他好過的女生。他堅信這個突如其來的夢，決定尋找失去聯絡多年的陳欣欣。不久，發生菜鳥昆河逃兵事件，阿洲與小鬼上級指派阿洲跟小鬼尋找逃兵的任務，他們卻當做休假的好時機。阿洲趁此時找到陳欣欣。陰錯陽差下，陳欣欣跟著阿洲和小鬼到了花蓮……他們在花蓮擁抱夏日陽光，享受熱帶海洋氣息，過著渡假般的生活，卻突然和昆河不期而遇。昆河將他們綁架到堆滿炸藥的廢棄小屋，他們害怕即將遭遇不測，但他們怎麼都料想不到……

Ah-Zhou, who is about to be honorably discharged from the military service, has a surreal dream. In the dream, he sees the dead body of Shing-Shing Chen, a classmate in elementary school from years back. Is this dream implying that Shing-Sihing Chen might have died? Soon afterwards, Ah-Zhou gets an unexpected five-day vacation and decides to look for Shing-Shing Chen. Nevertheless, he quickly learns that the special vacation is for him and another soon-to-be-discharged solider, Xiao-Gui, to go after a deserter, Kuen-He, who ran away with weapons two days ago. Both of them are worried about this assignment because they, the old birds, used to pick on Kuen-He, a spring chicken. And Kuen-He is now a deserter, armed and dangerous. The following day, they arrive at Kuen-He's home in a little fishman's village on the east coast. Although Kuen-He is nowhere to be found, they decide to forget about the assignment and to make it into a real vacation on the beach nearby. However, just as they are having fun and get ready to go back to the base, they run into Keun-He unexpectedly. Keun-He abducts all of them at gun point to a little house by the foot hill on the coast line, in fear that they may report him to the authorities...
